Farah Khan: Rakesh Bedi, Neena Gupta would visit Javed Akhtar for free food
Farah Khan recalled nostalgic moments from Film and Television Institute of India days, revealing how Rakesh Bedi, Neena Gupta and others would visit Javed Akhtar's home for free food and drinks.

Actor Rakesh Bedi is currently riding high on the success of Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge, and recently featured on Farah Khan’s YouTube food vlog. During the interaction, Farah revisited old memories and shared how Bedi, along with actors like Neena Gupta, would often drop by Javed Akhtar’s home in their early days to enjoy free meals and drinks.
Welcoming him warmly, Farah greeted Bedi as “Dhurandhar ka main hero (the main hero of Dhurandhar)” and spoke about their long-standing bond. She recalled being just 15 years old at the time, while Bedi was studying at Film and Television Institute of India (FTII)
Farah said, “FTII se yeh log roz aate the Javed uncle aur Honey aunty ke ghar free ka khaana aur free ki daaru peene, aate the vahan par toh we used to meet all of them (They used to come every day from FTII to Javed uncle and Honey aunty’s house for free food and free drinks, and that’s where we would meet all of them)."
She further added, “He used to come with Farooq Shaikh, Satish Shah, Neena Gupta and Supriya Pathak. Humari puraani dosti hai (We are old friends), but we are meeting after a very long time." Farah Khan also mentioned that she was 15 then, while Rakesh was around 25.
On the work front, Bedi has been widely appreciated for playing Jameel Jamali in Dhurandhar. Initially introduced as the father of Sara Arjun’s character, Jamali’s arc takes a dramatic turn in the sequel, where he is revealed to be an Indian spy embedded deep within Pakistan.
Led by Ranveer Singh, the Dhurandhar franchise has become a major box office success. Set in early 2000s Pakistan, the story follows an Indian spy navigating the underworld of Lyari while working to dismantle terror networks. The sequel expands on the origins of Ranveer’s character, Hamza Ali Mazari aka Jaskirat Singh Rangi, while raising the stakes of the narrative.
