Soni Razdan carried guilt over breaking Mahesh Bhatt's marriage: Daughter Pooja
Pooja Bhatt recalled Soni Razdan admitting she felt guilty about Mahesh Bhatt's first marriage ending. She also said her family handled the difficult period with honesty, decorum and grace.
Actor-director Pooja Bhatt has opened up about her equation with Soni Razdan and the emotional conversations they shared after filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s marriage to Kiran Bhatt ended. Recalling a moment between them, Pooja said Soni once admitted she had carried guilt over the situation for years.
Speaking on journalist Vickey Lalwani’s YouTube channel, Pooja revisited a heart-to-heart conversation with Soni during a trip to Coonoor. According to her, Soni had confessed that she felt responsible for disrupting Mahesh Bhatt’s first marriage.
“She said, ‘Pooja, I too feel so guilty, felt very guilty,’” Pooja recalled. She added that she responded by telling Soni not to blame herself for something that was already fragile. “You could not have broken up a relationship that was together. There is no space for anybody in a relationship that is solid unless there are crevices there,” she said.
Pooja also revealed that Mahesh Bhatt had personally told her about Soni Razdan long before the relationship became public knowledge. She said the filmmaker chose to speak to her directly instead of letting her hear about it through rumours or film magazines.
Recalling the moment, Pooja shared, “He woke me up and said, ‘I have to let you know that I have met this lady, and I am going to be moving out. It doesn’t mean that I love you any less, and I will always be there.’”
She added that she appreciated the honesty. “I would rather have heard it from my father or my mother than through Stardust, Cine Blitz or the mohalla,” she said.
While speaking about the difficult period, Pooja acknowledged that she witnessed her mother Kiran Bhatt’s pain firsthand. However, she noted that her parents maintained “decorum and grace” in the way they dealt with each other despite the separation.
Mahesh Bhatt was married to Kiran Bhatt and the two have children, Pooja and Rahul Bhatt. He later met Soni Razdan during the making of Saaransh. Mahesh and Soni married in 1986 and are parents to Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt.
