Rajpal Yadav bail hearing highlights: Actor to walk out of Tihar Jail after 11 days
Rajpal Yadav Bail Hearing: Actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered to the Tihar Jail authorities on February 5 in connection with a cheque-bounce case. The Delhi High Court on Monday granted him interim bail.

After spending 11 nights at Tihar Jail in a cheque-bounce case, actor Rajpal Yadav walked free on Monday after the Delhi High Court on Monday granted him interm bail in a cheque-bounce case. During the hearing, the court first asked the actor to deposit an amount of Rs 1.5 crore before 3 pm to get relief.
Yadav, a prominent figure in the Hindi film industry, reportedly took a loan of Rs 5 crore in 2010 from a Delhi-based businessman. He invested the money in his directorial debut, titled Ata Pata Laapata. However, the film didn't work at the box office, and the actor couldn't repay the loan. Those close to him told the media that he tried his best over the years, but with the interest mounting, he couldn't manage to repay the entire loan, which eventually accumulated to Rs 9 crore.
During the bail hearing earlier, the court pulled up the actor for re-opening the case after failing to honour his commitment.
The court also issued a notice to Murli Projects Company, the businessman's company which gave a Rs 5 crore loan to Yadav, to file a response to the bail application. The matter pertains to nearly Rs 9 crore that Yadav allegedly failed to repay. During the hearing, Yadav's lawyers sought time from the court, stating that they needed instructions from him regarding the payment. The actor also told the court that he needed to attend his niece's wedding in Shahjahanpur later this month. He has been in judicial custody at Tihar Jail since February 5.
During the proceedings, the Delhi High Court strongly reprimanded the actor. Justice Swarnakanta Sharma observed that Yadav's imprisonment was not because of the court's order but due to his own conduct. The court noted that Yadav had admitted to the liability multiple times.
