Actor Rakul Preet Singh addressed the chatter around husband Jackky Bhagnani’s "situationship" comment that had sparked online speculation about their marriage.

In an exclusive interview with India Today, Rakul admitted that what started as a harmless joke between the couple was blown out of proportion once clips from the interview began circulating on social media.

She said, "Obviously, we were laughing about it. Then it started getting a little too much, and became a little personal. I felt that people don't know us. People don't know (about) our life. It was also taken out of context... it was just that word and that line (which became headlines). Not the question and not the lines before that."

"Also, because I am sitting in that interview. It's not like my husband has gone and said that somewhere else. We were talking about relationships. Then we felt, let's just joke about it. It's okay, mistakes do happen, it's not a big deal," the actor added with a laugh.

For the unversed, the controversy began after Jackky casually referred to their marriage as a "situationship" during an interview, prompting social media users to dissect the remark and speculate about trouble in their relationship. However, Rakul clarified that the comment was made in a light-hearted context while discussing modern-day relationships, and the viral clip failed to capture the entire conversation.

Speaking further about relationships and marriage, the Pati Patni Aur Woh Do actor also shared her thoughts on how the institution of marriage is evolving today. While agreeing that marriage may not hold the same value for some people anymore, Rakul stressed that there should never be pressure around settling down at a certain age.

"I think you should really take your time and marry. There's no age limit to get married. Do it when you find the right person. And if you're lucky to find that companion, that best friend in your partner, it is so much fun," she added.
