Sadhguru's taste test with The Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder leaves fans amused
Ian Somerhalder sat down with Sadhguru for a conversation on life, soil and regenerative agriculture, followed by a blind taste test. Their unexpected crossover, capped by light banter, drew amused reactions across social media.

Spiritual leader Sadhguru recently joined The Vampire Diaries actor Ian Somerhalder for a conversation on life, sustainability and agriculture, in a crossover that many on social media said they did not see coming. The two also took part in a taste test, trying to tell the difference between organically grown produce and crops cultivated using fertilisers.
On Wednesday, Ian shared a teaser reel from the conversation on Instagram and gave followers a glimpse of the exchange. The full one-hour conversation is set to premiere on YouTube on June 5. Along with the video, Ian wrote, “Turns out @Sadhguru knows a thing or two. Got to sit down with him and talk life, soil, regenerative agriculture and real solutions to one of the largest crises we're about to face. Full video is live on Sadhguru's YouTube now and the 1 hour conversation premiers June 5th #SaveSoil @consciousplanet (sic).”
The video shows several light-hearted moments as Ian and Sadhguru test their taste buds with produce sourced from different kinds of farming. “We're going to try two separate types of food, some from a local farm and some from a commercial supermarket,” Ian says in the clip. Sadhguru then corrects him, saying, “No food comes from a supermarket. Both are from farms. One is organically rich, and another is fertiliser-rich.”
During the taste test, they sampled blueberries, tomato, strawberries and carrot. Sadhguru was also offered cucumber, but refused to eat it after sunset. In the video, both of them identify the difference between the organic produce and the fertiliser-grown crops.
Towards the end of the conversation, Ian says, “So organic matters that define the health of soil.” Sadhguru replies, “It's very important. If you say this is 4% organic soil, I will decide for my child and what kind of apple my child should eat. Now, if it costs a little more, I don't mind paying because instead of eating 4 apples, 1 apple is good enough.”
The video closes on a humorous note, with Ian joking that he is taking Sadhguru out on a date to McDonald's. Sadhguru responds, “Why aren't you taking me to the whiskey factory?”, leaving both of them laughing.
The meeting also drew a wave of amused reactions online. One user wrote, “What even is this multiverse?”, while another said, “Not the collaboration i dreamt of in my wildest imagination”.
Other reactions included, “This wasn't on my 2026 bingo card”, “Brooo unexpected cooolllaabbb”, “DAMON SALVATORE AND SADHGURU? HELL YESS”,
