Oscars 2027: Comedian Conan O'Brien back as host for third time
Conan O'Brien will host the 99th Oscars on 14 March 2027, extending his run to three straight ceremonies. The Academy and Disney Television Group said his return keeps the core team together for another global broadcast.

Comedian Conan O'Brien is set to return as the host of the Academy Awards in 2027, marking his third consecutive stint at the ceremony. The 99th edition of the Oscars will take place on Sunday, March 14, 2027, at the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood.
O’Brien will reunite with executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan, who are returning for a fourth straight year. Producers Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney will also be back for the third time, with Sweeney continuing as a writer on the show.
Announcing the decision, Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor praised the returning team.
“We are thrilled to be working again with Conan, Raj, Katy, Jeff and Mike for the 99th Oscars,” they said in a joint statement, adding that the team has delivered “captivating, entertaining and heartfelt shows” in recent years.
Craig Erwich, President of Disney Television Group, also commended O’Brien’s hosting style. “His singular comedic voice makes Hollywood’s biggest night one of the most entertaining celebrations of the year. We’re proud to welcome him back,” he said.
Kapoor and Mullan highlighted O’Brien’s collaborative approach, calling him a “true creative partner” who brings both humour and warmth to the show.
A long-standing comedy career
O’Brien is widely known for his late-night television work, including Late Night with Conan O'Brien, The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, and Conan. Before stepping into hosting, he was a writer for Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons.
He currently hosts the podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend and stars in the travel series Conan O’Brien Must Go. Over the years, he has won six Primetime Emmy Awards and earned 33 nominations, including recognition for his work on the Oscars.
