The trailer begins with a previously cinema-exclusive teaser, depicting a road trip that ends in horror. It then expands to reveal the film's plot, which follows a young couple, played by Lou Llobell and Jacob Scipio, who witness a fatal accident. This incident leads them to be pursued by a relentless demonic entity, seemingly linked to the accident. Melissa Leo's character ominously warns, "You didn't stop, did you?"

The chilling trailer concludes with Leo's character saying, "No one outruns the passenger," as a series of terrifying images unfold.

The film, directed by Andre Ovredal and written by Zachary Donohue and TW Burgess, is set to release in cinemas in just over a month. Ovredal, known for The Autopsy of Jane Doe and Trollhunter, called Passenger "the scariest movie" he has made.

Ovredal expressed his excitement, saying, "I've seen it with the audience in a number of test screenings, and it's been a riot to watch the audience jump, engage, and be just thrilled throughout the movie, so I'm very happy with it." He was quoted by Digital Spy as saying, "I wanted to change up my methodology on how I direct, as well, on this movie, on how I build certain scenes, and there are some moments in this movie I’m very proud of that aren’t even in this trailer."
