Reacting to a video shared by news agency PTI on X, Chinmayi wrote: "Many of those killed in a restaurant fire are foreigners. There is a good chance this case will be dealt with properly only because of that (sic)."
Her remarks quickly drew attention online, with users debating issues of accountability and the response to such tragedies.
According to preliminary findings, the fire is believed to have been caused by a suspected short circuit in the building's internal wiring. The blaze engulfed the five-storey bed-and-breakfast property in the Hauz Rani area of Malviya Nagar on Wednesday morning, killing at least 21 people and injuring several others.
While police have ruled out an LPG cylinder explosion, forensic teams continue to examine the site and assess compliance with fire safety norms.
