CM Vijay remembers producer K Rajan, says Tamil cinema will remember his legacy

Tamil Nadu's newly elected Chief Minister Vijay on Tuesday expressed grief over the death of producer-director-actor K Rajan, saying the veteran filmmaker's contributions to Tamil cinema would always be remembered. Rajan, who began his career in Tamil cinema as a producer with Brammacharigal in 1983, died by suicide in Chennai at the age of 85.
In his official statement, Vijay said Rajan was known for speaking with courage on issues concerning the welfare of the film industry, especially the rights of small-scale producers and distributors, as well as the direction and future of Tamil cinema. Rajan's death has sent shock waves across the industry, and law enforcement has registered a case and begun an investigation.
"K Rajan was known for consistently voicing his opinions with courage on the welfare of the film industry, particularly regarding the rights of small-scale film producers and distributors, as well as the direction and future of Tamil cinema. His contributions, built through decades of close association with the film industry, will always be remembered," Vijay said in the statement.
He also extended his sympathies to Rajan's grieving family, friends and members of the Tamil film industry, and said the veteran filmmaker's legacy would remain etched in the industry's memory.
Rajan's production credits included Brammacharigal (1983), Doubles (2000), Aval Paavam (2000) and Ninaikkatha Naalillai (2000). He made his directorial debut in 1991 with Namma Ooru Maariamma, starring Nizhalgal Ravi and Sarathkumar, and later directed Unarchigal in 2005.
As an actor, Rajan appeared in films including Michael Raj, Sonthakkaran, Veettoda Maapillai, Paambu Saatai, Ajith Kumar's Thunivu and Selvaraghavan's Bakasuran. Apart from his film work, he was also known for his outspoken views on developments within the industry.
