In a note posted on X, she said she had the utmost regard for journalists and members of the Tamil Nadu media, but called for future interactions to remain respectful and considerate.

The issue arose when Malavika was asked whether she knew how to travel with Vijay, with the question also referring to reports about actor Trisha Krishnan accompanying him to several places recently. Appearing displeased, Malavika responded at the event, "What all questions are you asking me?" The clip later drew support online, with several social media users saying the question was inappropriate.

Here's the video:

In her statement, Malavika wrote, "I went for an event yesterday, and while I have the utmost regard for all the journalists and members of the Tamil Nadu media, a couple of them persistently asked some very distasteful questions that were completely unnecessary and sensational."

She added, "I would really appreciate it if future media interactions could be kept respectful and considerate for the sake of everyone involved. Thank you."

Her response at the event and the statement that followed centred on the need for respectful media interactions, even as the incident renewed attention on her association with Vijay.

She also spoke about her equation with Vijay at the event, saying, "Thalapathy Vijay is someone I’ve known for the past seven years, someone I have a lot of respect for, and someone I’m grateful to call a friend. Watching his journey has been nothing short of incredible."

Malavika and Vijay had earlier worked together in the 2021 action drama Master, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film also featured Vijay Sethupathi, Andrea Jeremiah, Arjun Das, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and Gouri Kishan in key roles. Master went on to become a box office success and was also credited with helping revive theatre business in Tamil Nadu after the Covid-19 pandemic-induced shutdowns.

Currently, Malavika is working on director Thiagarajan Kumararaja's Pocket Novel, co-starring Vijay Sethupathi.
