Ram Charan calls himself a rough dad, praises Upasana for being the nurturer
Actor Ram Charan has opened up about his parenting style, calling himself a 'rough dad' while describing wife Upasana Kamineni as the nurturing force in their family. The couple have a three-year-old daughter and welcomed twins earlier this year.

Ram Charan, the Tollywood star, recently shared insights into his parenting style, describing himself as a 'rough dad' while praising his wife, Upasana Kamineni, as the 'nurturing pole' in their family. The couple, who got married in 2012, are proud parents to three children: their daughter Klin Kaara, born in 2023, and twins, a boy named Shivram and a girl named Anveera, born earlier this year.
Ram Charan on how parenthood changed him
In a candid conversation with Esquire, Ram Charan elaborated on his approach to fatherhood. "I'm the rough kind of dad," he confessed. "The one who lets them jump, play dirty, climb, and take risks. Their mother is the nurturing pole; I'm the one they come to when they want courage," he said.
Reflecting on how parenthood has altered his perspective, the actor added, "The biggest lesson we learn is from observing our parents. And I want to be a very, very present person first. And I want to be a present father."
He emphasised the importance of prioritising time, stating that it is not about having time, rather it's about how well you are using your time.
Balancing family and fame
Ram Charan acknowledged that his life was less structured before becoming a parent. "I didn't have 3 kids before. I didn't have other responsibilities. It used to be my work hours and my shoot, and now everything has to have meaning," he explained.
The Peddi actor then continued, "I have to give my hundred percent. The minute I come home, I should not act lazy. My daughter's jumping, my wife needs something, there are family issues we have to address, there are fans' issues we have to address too. So I have to not be foggy and be hundred percent present, every day."
On the professional front, Ram Charan is gearing up for his next film, Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana. The film features Janhvi Kapoor as the female lead, with Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, and Divyenndu also part of the project. The movie is slated for release on April 30.
