The Question hour has been done away with. This has led to a sharp pushback against the Modi govt from the opposition. Facing heat, the government said it was forced by the Covid-19 pandemic to scrap the Question Hour. It said it respects the accountability the Question Hour brings to parliamentary democracy. The records of the two Houses tell a story - how every party has contributed to the decline of the Question Hour. Over the last two decades, not only have members of Parliament and their parties disrupted or not used the time allotted for the Question Hour but have also demanded almost on a daily basis that the heads of the two Houses must adjourn it, or simply put, scrap it on that particular day.
