Rashtrapati Bhavan replaces Lutyens bust with C. Rajagopalachari 

In a symbolic move, Rashtrapati Bhavan has removed the bust of British architect Edwin Lutyens and replaced it with that of C. Rajagopalachari, India’s first and only Indian Governor-General. Unveiled by President Droupadi Murmu during the Rajaji Utsav, the change is being framed as a step toward shedding a colonial mindset and foregrounding Indian icons in national spaces. Supporters call it mental decolonisation, while critics see it as symbolic politics. Either way, one of India’s most powerful buildings has just rewritten a part of its history.
