Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain passed away at the age of 73 in a hospital in San Francisco, USA, due to chronic lung disease, his family announced on Monday. Hussain had been hospitalised for two weeks and was later moved to the ICU as his condition worsened. Although reports of his death surfaced on Sunday, they were initially dismissed by his family, who clarified that he was still alive at the time. On Monday morning, however, his family issued a statement to India Today confirming, "Zakir Hussain, one of the world’s most transcendent musicians, passed away from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in San Francisco at the age of 73."
