A new study has revealed that air pollution contributed to over 6.7 million deaths worldwide in 2019. As North India is waking up to another season of smoggy air with toxic PM 2.5 levels in each breath, the southern coastal parts are struggling with sea pollution. The concentration of major air pollutants PM 2.5 and PM 10 during the morning hours however reached "severe" category at some places in the four immediate neighbouring districts of Delhi, according to the air quality index (AQI) maintained by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
