Water crisis: Is it time to press emergency button?

As heat wave sweeps north India, there are reports that parts of the country are facing acute water shortage. People in Chennai, Bengaluru, Hubli and in other cities have been affected by the water scarcity this summer.

According to a Niti Aayog report, 21 Indian cities will run out of water by 2020. Water levels in major reservoirs have fallen to 21 per cent of the average of the last decade.
