Epic clash, epic turnout of 92% in Bengal: Mandate for Modi or Mamata?

The first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections concluded with an unprecedented voter turnout of over 92 percent across 152 seats in 16 districts. This marks a significant increase from the 81.56 percent turnout recorded in 2021. The surge in voting percentage is largely attributed to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which led to the deletion of numerous voters and created widespread awareness and anxiety among the electorate. Both the incumbent government and the opposition successfully mobilised their support bases, including migrant workers who returned to cast their ballots.
