The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has blamed Trinamool Congress for the recent Ram Navami clashes in West Bengal and demanded Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's resignation.
On the other hand, Governor CV Ananda Bose told India Today TV that "there is no space for violence in Bengal" amid reports of clashes in Howrah’s Shibpur and Hooghly’s Rishra.
Terming the flare-up as unfortunate, the Governor said that ‘mobocracy’ will not be tolerated in the state and that Bengal is determined to rule out the culture of intimidation from the political space.
Ram Navami clashes first broke out in Howrah on March 31. Several shops were ransacked during the violence while a number of cars, including a few police vehicles, were set on fire. On Sunday, fresh violence erupted in Hooghly during Ram Navami Shobha Yatra. Stone pelting was reported.
