Two days after the Centre slashed the excise duty on petrol and diesel, now politics has erupted over fuel price cuts. The BJP on Friday hit out at the opposition parties for not reducing the Value Added Tax and accused them of doing "petty politics" over high fuel prices.
It said the Opposition attacks the Centre over high prices of diesel and petrol but not follows suit when the Union government slashes the excise duty.
BJP-ruled states like Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tripura, Goa, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Assam, Bihar and Haryana announced cuts in VAT
However, states run by Opposition parties like Punjab, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand did not cut VAT and transfer the benefits to citizens.
Meanwhile, Congress called it a cheap joke on consumers, while the TMC called it the effect of losing an election.
