In a major blow to AAP, Raghav Chadha and six other Rajya Sabha MPs quit the party to merge with BJP, triggering a massive political crisis. Three of the defecting parliamentarians held a press conference to announce their departure, claiming they have the support of two-thirds of the party's upper house representatives. In response, the Aam Aadmi Party's chief whip is submitting a formal complaint to the Rajya Sabha chairman, seeking strict action under the anti-defection law against three MPs who joined the BJP. The political shift reduces the Aam Aadmi Party's upper house strength significantly while boosting the Bharatiya Janata Party's numbers ahead of the upcoming Punjab assembly elections.
