Australia (AUS) vs England (ENG), 3rd T20I Highlights: As it happened

Jos Buttler has been handed over the trophy. Right then! All smiles in the England camp and that ends another series here. With this, all the teams are done with their preparation before the World Cup. England will now play a warm-up game against Pakistan, while Australia will be up against India in the warm-up match. Both these matches will be played on 17th October 2022, which is just around the corner. From here, it's goodbye!

Jos Buttler the skipper of England is also the Player of the series! He says that they have enjoyed it here and are happy that they have continued their form from Pakistan. Adds that they were just two overs left so they wanted to give it their all, but it's a shame they could not get a game here. Mentions that Chris Woakes's opening over was brilliant, he got the ball to swing for them which is good news.

Aaron Finch the skipper of Australia says it was quite a bit of rain last night and it has been frustrating and they could have been happier with a full game. Adds that England outplayed them in all three games but they will need to improve on their fielding a bit. Further says that it was difficult to bat as well. Ends by saying that they do get a couple of days to recharge before the World Cup.

Earlier in the match, Australia put their opposition to bat first. After a few interruptions, England managed to post a total of 112 for 2 in 12 overs, coursety of a fine 65 from the skipper, Jos Buttler. The target was then changed to 130 cause of the DLS method. In reply, we could only get in 3.5 overs in which, Chris Woakes demolished Australia's top order and had them reeling at 30 for 3 before the match was eventually called off. 

That's it, folks! The news that none of us would have liked to hear. But the match has been called off. With this, Australia might feel a tad lucky, they were struggling at 30 for 3 at the start of the second innings. But things could have turned out to be different. Anyway, it's England that have won the series 2-0 and will walk into the mega event after having defeated the defending champions in their own backward yard. They will be oozing with confidence before the World Cup, while the hosts have some thinking to do.

UPDATE - 4.40 pm IST (11:10 am GMT) - OH NO! The rain is back again. It's just been that kind of a day! The players have made their way out while the covers have been brought on. We have not finished 5 over just yet, which means, if we do not get any play now we will not have a result. The game should restart by 5.09 pm IST (11.39 am GMT) to be able to complete a 5-over game. The DLS par score for Australia at the end of 5 overs is 52.

Right then, the game is evenly poised as of now. The conditions though are not easy to play on. England did have some problems with the bat and so will the Aussies. Who will get over the line in this fierce rivalry? To find out, do join us for the second essay in a short while.

The Aussies were quite decent with the ball and they got Hales early on in the second over. None of them leaked many runs. Hazlewood and Cummins bagged one wicket each until the 10th over. They were excellent in the field as well and they did improve in that department as compared to their previous game. Had it not been for Hazlewood's second last over of 22 runs, they had done pretty well throughout. The onus is all on their batters now and they will be hoping for a good opening stand.

So, after the delays in the middle, we are finally done with the first innings. Also, according to the DLS method, the target that England have set is now 130! They would be pretty happy with that. England lost Hales early on but Buttler was amazing with the blade. They were 47 for 1 at the end of the Powerplay. After that, the rain gods came into the picture and the play was reduced to 17 overs. The English side fumbled a bit and lost Malan after the play resumed. Stokes joined Buttler in the middle. However, the rain played it part again and the game was then reduced to 12 overs. Post that break, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes came out all guns blazing and scored 39 runs in the final 14 deliveries.

UPDATE - 2.39 pm IST (9.09 am GMT) - We have good news folks! The rain has stopped and the covers around the pitch are coming off. The pitch though is till covered. The umpires are out in the middle assessing the conditions. 

David Warner is down for a chat. He adds that he has enjoyed his time in this series and he is having fun. Adds that he feels ready for the World Cup, and hopefully, he can continue his good form. Mentions that Cricket is a game, there are going to be highs and lows, they have to enjoy their high time and just back themselves in low times. On being asked about Glenn Maxwell's form, he says that he is one good inning away, he is in a good head space, and he has not scored many runs, but a big game is not far away. Further says that Aaron Finch and himself work very well together, Finch is a great leader, and a great person to have around. He has led them to a World Cup winning campaign the last year. Mentions that if he gets an opportunity to captain Australia in the white-ball format it will be a privilege. On Tim David, he says that he is incredible, he has some serious power, he hits the ball a long way and he reminds him of Pollard. On their World Cups schedule, he says that it's a challenge because of the travel, but he hopes the weather stays good throughout. Adds that England is an all-round package, they annihilated the, but hopefully, they can get the better of them in the last game.
