Bangladesh vs Netherlands, 1st T20I: Highlights from Sylhet

Right then, a one-sided affair to start this three-match series, but the Netherlands will be better for the experience and will be eyeing a turnaround in the next game. Bangladesh, meanwhile, will look to seal the series. The second T20I will also be played here in Sylhet on Monday, 1st September, with the first ball at 12 pm GMT. The skipper of Bangladesh, Litton Das says that he is really happy with the team's effort. Feels that the dew was a major factor in today's match. He praises Taskin Ahmed for bowling exceptionally and picking four wickets. Also appreciates Saif Hassan for picking a couple of key wickets. Ends up by saying that 137 was not a big deal on this ground and the way Parvez Hossain Emon started was good to see.

Taskin Ahmed is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his superb bowling display. He says it feels great to put in a performance like this, especially in the first game of the series. Admits he struggled a bit when returning from injury, but is slowly getting back into rhythm. Credits the team’s hard work over the past few weeks. Adds that the wicket was good for batting and with the dew factor in play, he stuck to the basics and mixed up his variations.

The captain of Netherlands, Scott Edwards praises the Bangladesh team for the victory and admits that they were outplayed in all departments. He also says that they were 20-25 runs short of the score which they had targeted early on while batting. Gives full credit to the Bangladesh team for putting them under pressure right from the start. Hopes that they can make a comeback in the next game.

Earlier, Litton Das won the toss and had no hesitation in bowling first, given the rain in the lead-up to the game and the likelihood of dew later on. The Dutch innings simply flattered to deceive. Max O’Dowd looked promising at the top but couldn’t build on his start, and just when Scott Edwards and Teja Nidamanuru were beginning to inject momentum, both fell in the same over. From there, the innings never recovered as the tourists eventually scraped their way to 136. For Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed was the standout performer with the ball, finishing with figures of 4 for 28 from his 4 overs, while Mustafizur Rahman picked up a solitary wicket but was the most economical bowler for the hosts on the night.

Tanzid Hasan played the supporting role while Litton Das broke the back of the chase with his free-flowing stroke play. Their 66-run partnership virtually sealed the game, with Das ensuring he stayed till the end and Saif Hassan applying the finishing touches. The Netherlands didn’t help their cause either, wayward with their lines both in the Powerplay and thereafter, something they simply couldn’t afford when defending a low total.

A dominant effort from Bangladesh to go 1-0 up in the series! The victory was set up by their bowlers, and then Litton Das and Co. made light work of the target. The Netherlands were simply outplayed in both departments, but are certainly a much better side than what they showed on the night. It was always going to be tough to defend 136 with the dew settling in, and the Dutch needed to land early punches in the Powerplay. Aryan Dutt prising out Parvez Hossain Emon was as good as it got for them in the early stages, but it was not before Parvez getting off to a flier.

DRINKS BREAK! Bangladesh are firmly in control of the chase and with just 45 runs required, it’s now about playing proper cricketing shots and not doing anything rash. The Netherlands haven’t helped their cause in defending this low total with inconsistent lines and lengths, and the dew settling in has only made things tougher for them. Still, they have to keep believing and look to chip away at the wickets. Saif Hassan is the new batter.

In all readiness for Bangladesh's reply to get underway. The umpires are out in the field and so are the players of Netherlands. Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan will be the opening pair for Bangladesh. Aryan Dutt will get the new ball. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Bangladesh will be confident enough to chase this total on a surface that, despite its unpredictability, has played fairly well. Slower balls proved effective and were tougher to put away. For Netherlands, early wickets in the Powerplay will be crucial if they are to stand any chance. Back in a bit for the chase.

Saif Hassan is up for a quick chat. He thanks the almighty for the opportunity and feels elated to deliver for the team. He shares that he had a conversation with the captain about the plans, and he tried bowling in the right areas and eventually got the wickets in the process.

Teja Nidamanuru was slow to get going before stitching together a partnership with captain Scott Edwards. For a brief while, it looked promising with the two experienced men at the crease, but both fell in the same over and that proved decisive. From there, the Bangladesh bowlers tightened the screws by chipping away at wickets. That said, late efforts from Aryan Dutt and Tim Pringle have added some respectability to the total. Taskin Ahmed was the star with the ball for Bangladesh with figures of 4 for 28 from his 4 overs.

32 runs off the last 3 overs have given Netherlands something to bowl at but 136 does not seem enough at the halfway mark. An innings that never really took off for the Dutch. Apart from the first three overs, where Max O’Dowd came out attacking, Bangladesh controlled proceedings really well. Max provided a brisk start but couldn’t carry on, while his partner Vikramjit Singh endured a real struggle at the other end.

Tim Pringle hits hard from the inner part of his bat toward the cow corner. Tim calls for the second run. However, Rishad Hossain picks the ball and throws it toward the keeper's end. Litton Das collects and is quick to whip the bails off. Tim Pringle dives at the striker's end but fails to reach home in time.

The drops down on the deck and the batters sprint for a single. Shoriful Islam sprints towards the ball and tries to deflect it onto the stumps with his boot but misses. Tim was in any way.

PITCH REPORT – Farveez Maharoof is near the deck. Mentions that there has been plenty of rain in the lead-up to the game, and the ground staff have worked tirelessly to get things ready. Tells that this wicket looks a bit different from usual, with some moisture still visible on the surface because of the rain. Adds that certain patches clearly show signs of dampness, which suggests there will be some assistance for Bangladesh’s bowlers early on. Informs that 10 of the last 13 games played here have been won by the teams chasing. States that the square boundaries measure 64 metres and 68 metres, while the straight hit is around 80 metres. 

Scott Edwards, the skipper of Netherlands says that he is happy to bat first but would have chosen to bowl first as it's their first time playing on this pitch, which is a little bit different from their home conditions. Also says that it's a good opportunity for them to prepare for the World Cup. Ends by saying that they are going with three spinners and three seamers.

Litton Das, the skipper of Bangladesh says that it looks like a fresh pitch and they don't know how it will behave going forward. Mentions that they want to take advantage of the dew factor while chasing the total. He also points out that Sylhet has been a batter-friendly wicket, but there seems to be some grass left on the surface this time. Citing their recent good performance against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, he would like to carry forward their momentum in this series as well.
