DC vs GT Highlights IPL 2026: Rahul, Miller heroics in vain as Gujarat win thriller by 1-run

"[Thoughts on the game] The way we were playing. Both teams played very good game. In such close games, you can't point out anything. A very good game of cricket.

[Moment where they lost the match?] Like I have said it before, you can point out many things. I think we should have played smart cricket. We lost wickets at crucial times and it cost us the game.

[On Rahul's knock] Obviously, it was a great knock. In the powerplay, he kept the momentum going after the powerplay, despite the wickets falling at the other end. He didn't let the run rate dip. I think we are playing good cricket and we will finish the game in our next outing."

David Miller brought this contest so close and a 106-metre six brings the equation down to 2 off 2. But then, he decides not to take a single and remain on strike and completely misses the ball and Buttler gets Kuldeep run-out. There is a big review for a wide and the players don't move away from Nitin Menon. 

But then it is a legal delivery and GT get their first win of the season. The match had many defining moments with Rashid Khan's double-strike standing out on top. But Miller's refusing to run in the end seems to have been the decisive moment of the match. 

Well, we wanted a close contest here and we have got one. Vipraj gets the first one away for a boundary but manages to hit the second one straight up in the air and it goes to Shubman Gill. 

David Miller has changed the game on its head with 23 runs from the Mohammed Siraj over. Two sixes and a boundary off the first three balls changes the momentum of the game and then Vipraj gets a boundary to bring the equation down to 13 off 6 balls. 

Miller seems to be working with one hand at the moment as the shots are lacking that bit of power. He gets one boundary away and now remains DC's last hope. He takes a single off the last ball to get on strike. 

That's the wicket GT wanted and they get it. Siraj has been bowling outside off and conceded two wides and then a boundary. But he sticks with the line and Rahul finds the edge and Buttler completes the catch. 

Rahul is back in form but at what cost? He seemed to eat up a lot of deliveries at the start and the asking rate quickly jumped above 12. Maybe more intent at the start is needed from the DC opener in the remaining games. 

A big mix-up in the middle and GT will have no complaints. Tristan Stubbs commits to the run but gets stranded in the middle by KL Rahul. Sai Sudharsan takes aim and knocks down the stumps as DC lose their fifth wicket and the chase gets more tense. 

And just as we were talking about Rahul needing to do something different, well he says that he will play in his own way. Starts off with a boundary and gets a bit of luck going his way for another one in the over. GT's fielding didn't do them any favours as captain Gill gives away four overthrows as 16 comes off the over. 

It's time for KL Rahul to think outside the box for a moment. He looks far too comfortable at the middle while the others around him have struggled to get going. But with the required run-rate at 14, he needs to bring in some innovation into the middle. Else the GT bowlers will continue to tighten the noose around the hosts. 

Gujarat have Siraj, Ashok, Rabada and Prasidh to bowl in the final five overs, and Rahul needs to target one of them. 

Rashid Khan has looked at his very best tonight and he finishes off with the wicket of DC skipper Axar Patel. The all-rounder goes for a big shot and Glenn Phillips completes a fine catch to seal the deal. He has done his bit and seems like he has found form at the right moment. 

David Miller had to put in a dive during the previous over and it seems like he has suffered an injury. He was grimacing in pain when he hit a boundary in the last over and it seems like the issue seems to be a much bigger one at the moment. He can still come back on to the field but for now, Axar Patel comes in to join Rahul in the middle. 

He was hit for 23 in his first over and has returned with a sensational second one. This was mixed with slow balls, and good variations which meant that Rahul and Miller were strangled without any room to work with. Rashid Khan is being held back by Gill for what can end up being a very close finish. 

There was pressure building after the double-strike and KL Rahul responds with a massive six off the first ball. That meant he had the freedom to take singles and rotate the strike easily. David Miller is in the middle with him and he knows how to finish a game. But this one is all on Rahul. 

Rashid Khan has been sensational with the ball tonight. He first thought he had Nitish Rana before a review saved the DC batter. But then Sai Sudharsan takes a sensational catch to dismiss the southpaw. Then Sameer Rizvi comes in and the first ball he plays all over the shot and gets cleaned up. 

The game has changed on its head and the onus is fully on KL Rahul. 

A fifty off just 29 balls. Krishna started things by dismissing Nissanka, but was taken apart in the last four with two sixes and fours from the bat of Rahul. The second six and the boundary was just oozing class as Rahul seems to be ready for a big knock. 

This Rahul's 41st IPL fifty and he will be key in the chase. 

Prasidh Krishna struck to break the 76-run opening stand, removing a well-set Pathum Nissanka for 41. Looking to keep the momentum going, Nissanka went hard but couldn’t clear the fielder, with Rahul Tewatia completing the catch. A frustrated Nissanka walked back as Prasidh delivered a timely breakthrough for his side.

Rashid Khan bowled a tight over, keeping things under control and not allowing any big shots. He mixed it up nicely, including a sharp wrong’un that cramped KL Rahul, and forced both batters to settle for singles. Pathum Nissanka and Rahul could only rotate strike as Rashid kept the pressure on.

Prasidh Krishna nearly nailed the over, five on the money, until KL Rahul pressed delete with a touch of class.

A length ball just wide of off and Rahul was all over it, climbed on the bounce and smoked it over wide long-off. Statement made.

Pathum Nissanka played second fiddle, a couple here, a single there, plus a nervy moment saved by a sharp Jos Buttler dive.

And that stand. DC’s first 50 plus opening partnership at home since 2024.

Five good balls. One bad one. That is T20 cricket.

23 runs come off the final over of the powerplay. Four fours and a six and the most of the work was done by Nissanka. Rahul got a lucky break in the first delivery with a boundary and then Nissanka took over. Ashok Sharma's inexperience was exploited well by the Sri Lankan opener, who ensured that the first six overs didn't go to waste in the end. 

63 runs have been scored by DC in the powerplay and they get back on track in the run chase. Time for a strategic timeout. 

You would have missed that over if you went for a glass of water or to grab your dinner, because it was that quick. Rashid Khan just comes on and extracts spin from the track, leaving both Nissanka and Rahul struggling to make runs. As a result, the pressure just piles on and DC are slowly falling behind the run-rate. 

A special word on Shubman Gill, who has been proactive as a captain here and making some quick changes. Prasidh is still being held back from bowling in the powerplay and he could be key in the contest. 

After some promise, Rahul's innings is showing signs of a lack of rhythm. There was a glimpse of his class with a pick-up shot that went for a six, but he failed to cash in on the last two balls, which were dots. Rahul cannot afford to slow down and allow the scoreboard pressure to build in Delhi. It is also slowing the innings of Nissanka as well. 

Well, Lungi Ngidi is gaining a sensational reputation with his slower balls. 

Ofcourse, a boundary was conceded in the over by Siraj but the GT bowlers have genuinely pulling things back in Delhi. The amount of dot balls has increased with Rahul struggling to get hold of his Indian teammate but to no avail. Nissanka looked to be in good touch, but he is being starved of the strike at the moment. 

It was at this very ground that KL Rahul scored a sensational hundred for DC against GT. This season hasn't been a great one for him in terms of start, getting out for cheap scores in the first two games. He has been cautious, but Rabada gives him the chance to free his arms and gets punished. 

The GT pacer does come back to restrict the run flow after that but DC are keeping up with the rate. Rahul will be key in this chase and Gujarat will be chasing his wicket. 

Pathum Nissanka is telling everyone that he belongs on the IPL stage in Delhi. He starts off with a good cover shot, followed by a lofted hit for back-to-back boundaries. KL Rahul begins in steady fashion, with an easy single right afterwards, before the Sri Lankan just hits it straight down the ground and holds the pose. 

Perfect start for DC, not the best one for GT with the ball. 

Lungi Ngidi was the star of that death overs effort from Delhi Capitals. They concede just 49 runs in the last five overs. 

Lungi Ngidi's wicket of Shubman Gill in the 18th over was a crucial blow. 

Washington Sundar was able to hit T Natarajan for a six and a boundary in the left-arm pacer's last over. 

Will Gujarat Titans be happy with this effort? After Jos Buttler's blitz at the top, they looked set for more. Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar stitched a 104-run partnership in 61 balls, but neither of them was able to go bang-bang in the end. 

210 is a good total. But, Gujarat Titans need to bowl well. 

The super soppers are on the field, trying to control the dew. At the toss, Shubman Gill said there might not be a lot of dew. We will have to wait and see. If there is dew, 210 might not be enough. 

A terrific final over from Mukesh Kumar. Glenn Phillips gets a boundary in the last delivery to ensure Gujarat Titans finished with 210. 

Is that going to be enough on a pitch that looks to be a good batting wicket. 

49 runs came in the last five overs. A terrific effort in the death from Delhi Capitals. At one stage, Gujarat threatened to go past 220. 

Washgington Sundar falls for 55 off 32 balls. Mukesh Kumar gets his second wicket. 

GUjarat Titans, arguably, haven't managed to get a big push in the end overs. 

3 balls left. Rahul Tewatia has walked in at No. 6. 

Glenn Phillips began the final over with a big hit. A length ball and he smashed  it into the mid-wicket stands. Mukesh Kumar is under pressure. He has conceded 49 runs in 3.1 overs. 

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans have gone past 200 with five deliveries to spare. Can they get to 220? 

SIX! Washington Sundar stayed slow and converted a yorker into a six. A ferrific hit into the mid-wicket stands to get to his fifty. It has come in 30 balls. 

He slowed down a bit in the last few overs. But, with a six and a boundary in the 19th over, he has done well so far. 

T Natarajan's spell gets ruined by those two hits. He conceded 34 in his four overs without taking a wicket. 

Mukesh Kumar to bowl the last over. Gujarat (198/3 in 19 overs) in Delhi. 

Lungi Ngidi is climbing the Purple Cap charts. He has taken five wickets in three matches so far. 

More importantly, he has been hard to hit. His slower balls, bowled at different lengths and lines, are making the batters think hard. And he has that beautiful dipping slower ones as well.

Today, Shubman Gill was the victim of that slower ball. 

Ngidi completes his quota of four overs with figures of 1 for 24. What a bowler he has been for Delhi in the absence of Mitchell Starc so far! 

WICKET! Well, that's the Lungi Ngidi slower one for you. He gets the big wicket of Shubman Gill. It was bowled wide and Gill went for the big hit. He managed only a top edge and the ball fell safely into the hands of Nitish Rana, at short cover. 

It was bowled at 110.6, 17 kph slower than the previous ball. 

Gill is disappointed. He knew it was the wrong time to get out. 

This Ngidi slower ball is claiming vcictims at some pace here. 

Glenn Phillips is the new man in at No. 5. 

Kuldeep Yadav finishes his spell with figures of 1 for 42. A decent effort. He got the big wicket of Jos Buttler, who was looking in sensational touch today.

But, against Shubman Gill, he struggled. The Gujarat Titans captain hit him for four sixes tonight. 

Lungi Ngidi will bowl the 18th over and complete his quota. A series of dipping, slower balls coming in. 

SIX! Shubman Gill hits Kuldeep Yadav into the long-on stands. The Gujarat Ttians captain has been severe against Kuldeep Yadav today. 

And with that maximum, 100 of the partnership comes. It has come in just 55 balls. Washington Sundar has played a steady hand here. Gujarat desparetely needed this stability in the middle-overs and they have got it today. 

Can they finish well and get to 220?

 A very good over that from T Natarajan. He gave away a boundary to Shubman Gill, but followed it up with slower ball yorkers, which were difficult to put away. And Delhi Capitals took a wonderful review. A wide was given when Natarajn bowled a widish, slower-ball bouncer. But, after the review, it was reversed. 

Can Delhi Capitals close it out with some good death bowling? 

Kuldeep Yadav to bowl his last over. Will Shubman Gill target him? 

Well, Shubman Gill gets to his first fifty of the season. And he gets by sweeping a Lungi Ngidi dipper for a boundary. 

He gets there in 33 balls. Well, critics will question his strike rate. But, Gill will go hard after this. 

Meanwhile, Lungi bowled six (seven, including the wide) slower balls in that over. Batters knew he would be bowling it slow, but they are not able to get them away. 

A good over from the South African pacer, who has given away just 21 runs in his three overs so far. 

Gujarat Titans have reached 161 for 2 in 15 overs. 

Can they get past 220? Is there a hundred loading for Gill?

Washington Sundar and Shubman Gil are playing with a nice tempo. They are not manufacturing big shots, but are regularly putting the bad balls away.

Their partnership now reads 73 from 39 deliveries. 

Delhi Capitals need a wicket here. 

And Axar Patel has thrown the ball to Lungi Ngidi, who will bowl his third over. 

Well, Axar Patel could have had a breakthrough there. Shubman Gill flat batted a faster delivery towards long-on. He was in no position to hit that into the stands. 

The ball drops just short of David Miller, who dived forward. 

That was a tough chance! 

Kuldeep Yadav gets done with his third over. This partnership between Washington and Shubman Gill is laying a strong platform for Gujarat Titans. 

Can they get another 100 from here? Gujarat will be looking for somewhere between 220 and 230 after this start. 

Axar Patel, meanwhile, replaces Vipraj Nigam. Just one over for the leg-spinner, who was smashed for 23 runs. 

23 runs came from that over. He bowled short to Washington Sundar and offered Shubman Gill a full toss, which was smashed straight over his head. 

An unusually jittery over from young Vipraj. He closed out the over with a ripping leg-spinner that beat Gill. 

Meanwhile, Washington and Gill have added 54 runs in 27 balls for the third wicket. And once again, GIll has been happy to play second fiddle. 

GT (133 for 2 in 12 overs) in Delhi. 

Two short balls and both were pulled to the boundary by Washington Sundar. Young Vipraj Nigam is under pressure. 

To add to his woes, he has overstepped. Has to bowl it again.

KL Rahul runs to the young bowler and has a quick word with him. And he goes over the wicket to Washington Sundar. 

Sundar, however, doesn't waste the free-hit. In fact, he gets a maximum. The left-hander is racing ahead. 

A good, little partnership this for Gujarat Titans. Both Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar have been looking to steady the innings. They are putting the loose balls away, but nothing flashy from the two. 

They have added 31 runs in 21 balls. 

Gujarat Titans are 110 for 2 in 11 overs. 

Leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam is into the attack. 

101 for 2 in 10 overs is a solid platform for Gujarat Titans. Can they build on it? 

Shubman Gill, who has remained in third gear so far, has an opportunity to switch gears. He smashed Kuldeep Yadav into the deep mid-wicket boundary with a sweep. 

The captain needs to stay there for longer if Gujarat are to post a daunting total. 

It will be interesting to see how Washington Sundar goes from here. 

Is that lack of intent from Gujarat Titans? T Natarajan, the new bowler, gets away with just five runs in his first over. Both Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar were happy knocking it around for singles. 

Kuldeep Yadav continues from the other end. 

Gill is batting on 17 off 16. Will he go big against spin now? 

Washington Sundar begins with a lovely drive against Kuldeep Yadav. 

He has walked in at No.4. Washington was the first man to walk out to the nets on Tuesday. He batted for nearly 40 minutes, striking them cleanly. Can he make a mark today? 

Gujarat Titans need their middle-order to step up. 

What an impact! Kuldeep Yadav strikes in his first over and removes the danger man, Jos Buttler. 

The English superstar is out for 52 (27 balls). 

A googly that stopped on the pitch and came very slowly. Jos Buttler was deceived by the turn and the pace. The ball rattles into the stumps. 

The Kotla erupts in joy. That was an important wicket as Buttler was threatening to get a big one here. 

A terrific knock from Jos Buttler, one that Gujarat Titans desperately wanted. Fifty in just 24 balls. He was severe against Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar in the powerplay.

The man is looking charged up today. He ran hard between the wickets to convert a single into two and complete his fifty.

Can he go on to make a big one? 

Only 7 balls for Shubman Gill in that powerplay. Jos Buttler hogged the strike after Sai Sudharsan's exit. 

A good powerplay for the Gujarat Titans, barring that last over from Lungi Ngidi. Delhi Capitals will be happy that they closed it out well.

Now, comes the important phase of play. Delhi Capitals' superior spin threat against Gill and Buttler. 

Axar Patel back into the attack after the powerplay. 

Four dots in the final over of the powerplay. Just five runs. Lungi Ngidi used his variations to great effect to keep the rampaging JKos Buttler quiet. 

This man from South Africa is slowly proving to be one of the finest bowlers in T20Is. His slower balls are almost impossible to put away. 

23 runs from the fifth over. Mukesh Kumar was put under pressure by Jos Buttler, who faced all six deliveries. 

He read the ploy and set up Mukesh Kumar wonderfully well. Three sixes and a boundary in that over. 

Bowling change here. Lungi Ngidi will close the powerplay out. Axar Patel removes himself from the attack. 

SIX. SIX. FOUR! Jos Buttler is on fire in Delhi. He anticipated the length delivery from Mukesh Kumar and played a pre-meditated ramp shot in the first delivery of the over. 

The next ball was predictably fuller. Buttler smashed it into the stands over long-on.

Mukesh then goes searching for a length ball, but misses the line. Buttler whips it off his hips to collkect another boundary. 

He has raced past 30 and Delhi have sprinted past 50 in the fifth over. 

A good start this for Jos Buttler. Not so much for Axar Patel. He gives away 13 runs in his first over.

He flighted the first two deliveries of the over, looking for some early help from the pitch. And Buttler was ready for it. An inside-out over cover and he deposited the next delivery into the long-stands. A majestic six against the left-arm spinner. Not an easy shot for the right-hander. 

Can Gujarat Titans kick on and make this powerplay a huge one? 

KL Rahul gets a nasty blow on his left-hand finger. He tried to colect a wide delivery from Mukesh Kumar and the ball hit the tip of his fingers.

He threw the gloves and winced in pain. 

The physio attended him. And the good news is, he is okay with continuing. 

Meanwhile, spin into the attack early. Axar PAtel replaces Lungi Ngidi. 

First time, Mukesh Kumar missed his length in this over. He gets smashed for a six. Straight down the ground, into the long-on stands. A majestic shot from Shubman Gill, the captain of the Gujarat Titans. 

Can he get going here? 

Pressure on Gujarat Titans early. Can Jos Buttler, who has looked out of touch, fire today? He has walked in at No. 3. 

And Mukesh Kumar is still sticking to the good length. No full deliveries for the Gujarat Titans batters. 

Meanwhile, the Delhi crowd is nicely cheering for its players. As Mukesh Kumar ran in, the chants grew louder. 

A good evening for cricket in the capital city. Breezy and cool. 

Well, that Josh Hazlewood-ish length works for Mukesh Kumar. He stuck to it despite conceding runs in the first over. 

This time, he cramped Sai Sudharsan for room. Perfect length, bowled in the corridor of uncertainity for the left-hander. Sai Sudharsan tried to cut it late. And he played it onto the stumps. 

A good early wicket for Delhi Capitals. Mukesh Kumar is pumped up.

"We wanted a wicket," chanted the Delhi crowd. Mukesh Kumar made it happen.

A tight first over from Lungi Ngidi. Came back well after conceding a boundary in the first delivery of his over. 

He also bowled hard lengths, not allowing the two batters room or opportunities to drive. 

The ball is not swinging much. Seems to be a good batting pitch. 

That was a shot oozing with class. Good length from Lungi Ngid, who tried to slant it across the left-hander. But, Sai Sudharsan fwas ready for it. He played a check drive and the ball races to the boundary through the vacant cover region.

Signs that this is a good pitch for the batters. Sai was able to play that drive on the up without much trouble. 

There was a hint of swing for Mukesh Kumar. But, the medium pacer did not bowl full to see how much help he is getting from the pitch. 

A boundary each for Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill. A good start this for Gujarat Titans. 

Meanwhile, Lungi Ngidi takes the ball from the other end. Can the South African, who has been sensational, strike early for Delhi Capitals. 

Well, Shubman Gill also gets of the mark with a boundary. Another poor ball from Mukesh Kumar, who has struggled to bowl his first over well. 

Width and length and Shubman Gill cuts it past the point fielder. 

It seems the two Gujarat Titans openers are locked in.

He is ready for the bad balls. An excellent player, who often gets unfairly criticised for the strike rate.

Can Gujarat Titans post a total in excess of 200? Will their middle-order step up?

There are empty seats in the stands. But, it's a decent crowd, considering there was a threat of rain and it's a weekday game. 

A huge roar goes as the Delhi Capitals players walk onto the field. 

Two match-winning knocks in as many matches. Sameer Rizvi, the 23-year-old from Uttar Pradesh, has been the unexpected star for Delhi Capitals with the bat so far. 

He is still in the Impact Sub list and hasn't got into the playing XI.

On the eve of the match, bowling coach Munaf Patel confirmed that Rizvi would be in the Impact Sub list as Delhi are looking for flexibility. They can bring in Ashutosh Sharma, their finisher, when needed. 

Even Auqib Nabi Dar can be an option if they don't need batters in a match. 

Well, the pitch report is in. 

It's not as dark as the pitch that was used for the afternoon game between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians last Saturday. 

It will be good for batters, but don't expect 250, says Kevin PIetersen at the pitch report. 

Meanwhile, Axar Patel said the Delhi bowlers wanted to make use of any moisture that will be on the pitch, given it was under covers overnight. It had been steadily raining in the capital city. But, it's clear now. 

All set for a good match. 

Gujarat Titans haven't used Ishant Sharma so far in this season. But, the senior pacer is ensuring he is keeping himself ready for an opportunity that might come his way.
