Sai Sudharsan or Devdutt Padikkal? Gambhir reveals India's No.3 for Afghanistan Test
Gautam Gambhir has indicated that Sai Sudharsan is ahead of Devdutt Padikkal for India's No. 3 spot in the Afghanistan Test. Gambhir backed Sudharsan, saying that he hasn't got a fair shot while batting at the spot.

India coach Gautam Gambhir hinted that Sai Sudharsan over Devdutt Padikkal for the upcoming Test match against Afghanistan, which will begin on June 6. Gambhir said that Sudharsan hasn't got a fair chance to perform at the spot.
India started using Sudharsan at No.3 during the England tour last year and he hasn't impressed a lot with the bat. In six matches, he has scored 302 runs at an average of 27.45. India has been shuffling around a lot with the role as Karun Nair and Washington Sundar since then.
Speaking to the reporters, as quoted by PTI, Gambhir said that Sudharsan has been in great form in IPL and can't judge him just based on a few games.
"Sai Sudharsan has not got a fair chance. He played mostly in England and I believe he needs to get a fair chance," Gambhir told the reporters here.
"We can (only) pick 11 (players) and Sai isn't in bad form. He scored 700 runs in IPL. If we judge Sai on basis of 4-5 games we will never be able to build something," he added.
Padikkal has been in great form on the domestic circuit, scoring 543 runs in six matches at an average of 60.33.
INDIA TO HAVE 4 SPINNERS FOR SL TOUR
The toss-up for another spot will be between Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey for the third spinner option in the team. Gambhir said that the aim of the management will be to have four spinners ready for the Sri Lanka tour, which will take place in August this year.
"Manav and Harsh are to a certain extent similar but different also in terms of release points. This match gives us a chance to determine our fourth spinner as we will take four spinners in Sri Lanka," he said.
"We will need to prepare differently when we go to New Zealand. So, we will pull out a few ODI regulars who play Tests. We understand we need to prepare better for Tests," Gambhir added.
India and Afghanistan will play in a one-off Test, which will begin on June 6.
