Why Did India Bat First?
âYeah, obviously, I think we wanted to bat first. We went on to score 190 and then, coming out to bowl, there was a little bit of dew, which made it slightly challenging for the bowlers. But all in all, at the end of the day, weâre very happy.
Exactly. We might be in a similar situation next time as well. We might get a slow start, but itâs very important for all the batters to understand their responsibility and how the wicket is playing during the middle overs. Later on, we have enough firepower with Hardik, Shivam, Rinku, Axar or Washi â anyone â to finish the game nicely.â
On Shivam Dube
âAgainst New Zealand in Vizag, he played another wonderful knock. He wanted to take that Man of the Match award in that game but couldnât quite finish it. But today, the way he batted in the middle overs, he took the pressure off everyone. Getting us to 190 on this wicket was a very good effort.â
Have India Ticked All Boxes?
âYou canât say that weâve ticked all the boxes. Even when you win, you learn something. Weâve identified a few areas to improve. Weâll go back to the rooms, take a day off tomorrow, and then have a chat about it.
India's Bowling Options
âSometimes itâs a good headache to have â wondering how many bowlers I can use in the middle. With Abhishek Sharma coming in, then Hardik and Dube, I have a lot of options. On any given day, depending on what the wicket demands, they can chip in with a few overs.â
On His Own Batting
âIâm very happy with the way things are going. Contributions are coming from almost every batter, and thatâs what I want â those small partnerships. When the game gets tight, one or two players might have a standout day, but we need support from all the batters to reach a competitive total.â
