India vs Pakistan U-19 Asia Cup Highlights: India blow away Pakistan by 90 runs in Dubai

India have sealed a commanding victory in Dubai, hammering Pakistan by 90 runs in the U19 Men’s Asia Cup. Deepesh Devendran was the standout with the ball, claiming three wickets, while Kanishk Chouhan also grabbed three scalps to dismantle the chase.

Once Devendran struck early, Pakistan were forced into a constant game of catch-up and never truly recovered. For Pakistan, Huzaifa Ahsan was the lone bright spot, battling hard with a gritty 70, but he received little to no support from the rest of the batting line-up.

India are just one wicket away from sealing their second win of the U19 Asia Cup. Kishan Kumar picks up his first wicket of the innings, dismissing Mohammad Sayyam as Pakistan’s resistance fades.

Barring Huzaifa Ahsan, none of the Pakistan batters have looked comfortable at the crease, and it now feels like only a matter of time before India cross the finish line and wrap up the contest.

That should be the match for India.

Kanishk Chouhan strikes with the crucial wicket of Huzaifa Ahsan, the one batter who looked capable of pulling this chase away.

Ahsan went for the aerial option through the leg side, but Vaibhav Suryavanshi produced a stunning catch, sending Pakistan’s best batter back.

Huzaifa Ahsan departs after a valiant 70 off 83 balls, laced with nine fours and two sixes. Niqab Shafiq walks in as the new batter, but the task is monumental—101 needed off 60 balls, with the required run rate soaring to 10.1.

Huzaifa Ahsan knows the equation—if Pakistan are to get there, it has to be him. In the 38th over, the right-hander took on Henil Patel, striking two crisp boundaries to keep the chase alive.

He’s fighting a lone battle out there, with little support from the other end. Ahsan moves to 70, giving himself a genuine chance of a hundred as well. Crucially, he manages to retain the strike for the 39th over, a small but significant boost for Pakistan’s hopes.

Another wicket for India!

Kanishk Chouhan removes Abdul Subhan as Pakistan slip to their seventh down.

With the required run rate soaring past 8.75, the pressure got to the right-hander. Subhan charged down the track looking to clear the park but completely missed the ball, and Abhigyan Kundu had all the time in the world to whip the bails off.

The decision went upstairs to the third umpire, but the outcome was inevitable. Mohammad Sayyam is the new batter at the crease as Pakistan’s task grows steeper.

Pakistan are chipping away at India’s target, inch by inch. Abdul Subhan picks up his first boundary in the 35th over, a fortunate outside edge that runs away to the fence.

He now has to play the perfect foil for Huzaifa Ahsan, who has been outstanding so far, as Pakistan look to keep their hopes alive.

Huzaifa Ahsan brings up a hard-fought fifty, reaching the milestone off 62 balls in what has been a lone battle for Pakistan. There’s little celebration though—he knows the job is far from done.

With the required run rate climbing past 8, Pakistan will need something truly special from Ahsan if they are to turn this around. Meanwhile, Deepesh Devendran, the man who dismantled the top order, is back into the attack as India look to shut the door on the chase.

Another blow for Pakistan. Khilan Patel strikes, removing Hamza Zahoor as the slide continues.

Zahoor went for the aerial option but failed to time it, and Vihaan Malhotra produced a fine diving catch to his left to complete the dismissal. It’s the last thing Pakistan needed at this stage.

Abduk Subhan walks in as the new batter, and the pressure is now firmly back on Huzaifa Ahsan, who carries Pakistan’s hopes.

Huzaifa Ahsan is beginning to up the ante, using his feet and showing clear intent as Pakistan look for a shift in momentum. He has to take the initiative now, with the required run rate climbing to 7.35.

The Indian spinners, though, have done an excellent job of keeping the Pakistan batters in check, maintaining control as the pressure continues to mount.

Huzaifa Ahsan is the key man for Pakistan from here on. If the Boys in Green are to get past the finish line, he’ll need to bat through to the very end—he’s set now and has his eyes firmly in.

That said, India remain strong favourites at this stage to go on and seal the match here in Dubai, with the pressure squarely back on the chasing side.

He began with a rank long hop that was duly put away to the boundary by Farhan Yousaf through mid-wicket.

But Suryavanshi has the last laugh. He turns India’s man with the golden arm, breaking the dangerous partnership by removing the Pakistan skipper. Yousaf went for the cut through the off side but holed out to substitute fielder N Pushpak at third man.

Suryavanshi is absolutely ecstatic. Farhan Yousaf departs for 23 off 34, and Pakistan lose half their side. Hamza Zahoor is the new batter at the crease as the pressure swings firmly back in India’s favour.

A rare expensive over for India.

Kishan Kumar concedes 10 runs in the 21st, the first time in Pakistan’s innings that multiple boundaries have come in a single over.

Farhan Yousaf and Huzaifa Ahsan pick up a boundary each, and the partnership is beginning to grow—now worth 36 runs off 47 balls. The momentum is slowly shifting, and India will be eager to rein it back quickly.

Farhan Yousaf and Huzaifa Ahsan are showing signs of a rebuild, steadying the innings despite the required run rate hovering around 6.40. Ahsan capped off the 20th over with a boundary as Pakistan managed 33 runs in the second set of 10 overs.

Huzaifa Ahsan has begun to counterattack, clearly not in the mood to absorb any more pressure. India will be keen to break this partnership quickly before the pair gathers further momentum.

The Pakistan skipper had crawled to just 4 off 16 balls and needed a release—and he finds it in emphatic fashion, launching Khilan Patel straight down the ground for a massive six. Pakistan will need plenty more of those if they are to stay alive in this contest.

At the other end, Deepesh Devendran gets a well-earned breather, and Henil Patel comes into the attack as India look to maintain the pressure.

Deepesh Devendran is putting on a masterclass. He’s given the Pakistan batters absolutely no breathing space, and the required run rate has now climbed to 6.31, beginning to slip out of reach.

His figures read an outstanding 5–0–7–3, underlining just how relentless he has been. Huzaifa Ahsan and Farhan Yousaf will need to produce something truly special if Pakistan are to claw their way back into this chase.

Finally, some relief for Pakistan!

Huzaifa Ahsan breaks a 44-ball drought with a much-needed boundary. Pakistan had been stuck in their shell, with the Indian bowlers firmly in control.

Now it’s up to Ahsan and skipper Farhan Yousaf to rebuild the innings and steer Pakistan out of trouble. The required run rate has climbed to 5.97, creeping ever closer to 6—every run is vital now.

And the wickets keep tumbling!

Kanishk Chouhan joins the party with a dream start, claiming his first wicket off his very first delivery—Usman Khan departs.

The off-spinner came around the wicket, and Usman tried to defend but only managed an outside edge. Ayush Mhatre at first slip was alert, holding on to a sharp catch.

Usman finishes his innings with a struggling 16 off 42, and Huzaifa Ahsan walks in to join Farhan Yousaf. Pakistan is clearly under the pump, having played right into the hands of the Indian bowlers.

Deepesh Devendran is on fire! He’s claimed his third scalp of the innings, dismissing Ahmed Hussain with pace and precision.

A sharp short ball from Devendran caught Hussain off guard, and all he could do was offer an outside edge to keeper Abhigyan Kundu, who takes it comfortably.

Captain Farhan Yousaf is now at the crease, facing a challenging situation as Pakistan reels under pressure. The required run rate has climbed to 5.86 and is creeping ever closer to 6—every ball counts now!

Deepesh Devendran strikes again!

Hassan Baloch is gone for a duck, and Pakistan find themselves reeling at 24 for 2. The required run rate is already creeping up to 5.63, and the pressure is mounting.

Devendran bowled a teasing delivery outside off, and Baloch could only manage a faint edge, safely caught by keeper Abhigyan Kundu.

Ahmed Hussain walks in to join the crease, and with the powerplay wreaking havoc, Pakistan faces a tricky task ahead.

For those wondering about Pakistan U19 pacer Ali Raza, he’s one of the promising new faces on the U19 circuit.

At just 16, he featured in the 2024 U19 Men’s ODI World Cup, picking up nine wickets in three matches, including an impressive four-wicket haul. Raza has also tasted franchise cricket, representing Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League.

In his debut PSL season, he claimed 12 wickets from nine games, with his standout performance being 4-21 against Multan Sultans.

Abdul Subhan wrapped up the innings by removing Deepesh Devendran, as India were bowled out for 240, 17 balls short of their allotted 49 overs.

Pakistan’s bowlers put in a collective effort, with Mohammad Sayyam and Subhan leading the way by claiming three wickets each.

Niqab Shafiq chipped in with two scalps, while Ali Raza and Ahmed Hussain picked up one wicket apiece to round off a disciplined bowling performance.

And it’s Peshawar Zalmi’s Ali Raza who finally gets his reward, picking up the ninth wicket as Henil Patel departs, leaving India in deep trouble.

Raza had been swinging the ball prodigiously without success, but persistence paid off in emphatic fashion as he capped it off with a wicket maiden in the 46th over.

Kishan Kumar is the new batter at the crease as India try to salvage the closing stages of the innings.

It’s clear India need him to face as many deliveries as possible to push towards a competitive total, while Pakistan would certainly welcome his wicket at this stage.

The toss has been delayed in Dubai due to rain. Fans are expecting the fixture to get underway soon as several await in anticipation to watch Vaibhav Suryavanshi bat.

India got their campaign off to a winning start, beating UAE by 234 runs in their first fixture. Batting first, India posted 433/6 in their allotted 20 overs, riding on a spectacular innings from Vaibhav Suryavanshi of 171 (95). In reply, UAE could only score 199/7 in their 50 overs. Suryavanshi was adjudged Player of the Match for his belligerent innings.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi continued his rapid rise in his cricketing career as he slammed a breathtaking century in the opening game of the Under-19 Asia Cup against the UAE. The 14-year-old took just 56 balls to complete his milestone as he got India off to a terrific start after they were put in to bat first. He was dismissed for a sensational innings of 171 (95), having slammed nine fours and 14 sixes.
