"I have been working hard on my batting. We had two months off, no Test cricket or ODIs, I was working on my fitness and skills during that time. I have been batting at no. 8 or 9, but now I have a number, number 6, I need no hurry or rush, I can take my time and play my game. Playing on red soil is fun, you get more turn and bounce, you enjoy that as a spinner. I would like to thank the coach and management, being the vice captain you are always there and I am happy to do it. I am not the captain yet, Kuldeep has bowled so much for India and Washi is also there, no need to give suggestions as they have all played for a long time," said Ravindra Jadeja
"Six losses in a row. But as long as we keep winning the matches it does not matter. This was a perfect game for us, three centurions in the game and we fielded really well, no complaints. Whenever you get a start, both of us got starts and could not convert, plenty of others did and happy for them. When you have quality spinners like them it is difficult to rotate, that is the challenge and fun of playing in India, there will be someone out there to get the job done. So many things, it is hard to pin down to one thing, we have played as team and got out of tough situations. If we keep learning and using the experience then I will be happy," Shubman Gill said
"When you win the toss and get bowled out for 160-odd it is tough to come back from that. Not the performance we were looking for. We have to bat better especially in India you have to put up a big first innings total and that is something we need to look at. No problem with the decision, everyone wanted to bat first, there was a bit of moisture and this is Test cricket, you expect moisture and we had to batted better. The timing was off, when we took the second new ball we had to make the batters play more. The batting is the main problem, getting those partnerships and we didn't get any fifty partnerships, in cricket it is about getting partnerships," he said.
A comprehensive win for India and the Test skipper, Shubman Gill, who also wins his first Test at home as skipper. Big win today and perhaps more news expected to come in soon.
Kuldeep continues his spell and Pierre just hits it straight back at the bowler, who keeps hold of the catch. That's the end of the game here and a comprehensive win for India.
Jayden Seales is in no mood to mess about, something the specialist batters had struggled to do. He goes after the tossed up delivery and swats it over the long-off boundary for six runs.
Kuldeep Yadav is back into the attack. He is upping the revs hard here and is getting some nice turn away from the left-hander. Seems to be setting up for the wrong-un, but is nicely defended away. Pierre looks to go after the shorter delivery but to no avail as Siraj is there to stop the shot.
Jayden Seales does not seem to be in the mood for messing about. He goes after Jadeja right off the bat, slogs it over long-on for six runs and follows it with a boundary towards the deep point.

Jadeja is back into the attack. He doesn't waste too long getting the length ball turning away, Layne mistimes it and finds the man at mid off. Jadeja is also on four wickets and will etch his name in a rare list if he gets his fifty.

Some resistance from the West Indies. Sundar is hit for a boundary down the ground, while Pierre finds momentum with back-to-back boundaries off Kuldeep, including a clean strike over the bowlerâs head.
The West Indies get 100 runs on the board here. Johann Layne nice goes for the drive, gets the outside edge which beats the third-man fielder for four runs. Now the players take a break for drinks.

Siraj continues his spell. Fun fact, this is his best return when playing at home. His previous best was 4/100 against England in Rajkot in 2024. Two more wickets and there's a chance for a fifer.
What a horrible shot to play! Jomel Warrican gifts his wicket away. A wild slog and the ball doesn't go past Shubman Gill at mid-off.

West Indies are 8 down as India are closing in on an innings victory.
That's another big blow to the West Indies. Justin Greaves is out for 25. He looked comfortable in the middle agianst spin. But, Mohammed Siraj does him in with a yorker. That tailed in a bit and hit his boots.
The on-field umpire gave it out, but Greaves reviewed.
It's the umpire's call and Greaves has to go.
West Indies are 7 down for 98. The innings defeat is coming soon, now.
A soft dismissal! Alick Athanaze is out caught and bowled by Washington Sundar. A fuller delivery and Athanaze tries to play against the turn, pays the price as the ball balloons up in the air for an easy return catch.
The young left-hander is gutted. He battled hard for his 38, but throws it away just when the sixth-wicket partnership was taking shape. The partnership ends at 46 runs.
Mohammed Siraj replaces Jasprit Bumrah as India continue with pace from one end.
Bumrah had walked up to bowl another over, but captain Shubman Gill signalled against it. It seems India are happy giving short spells to their premier pacer.
Alick Athanaze has been cleared to continue batting. He has got a new helmet.
India are continuing with Washington Sundar. Will they give Jasprit Bumrah another over? He might get one, considering how he ruffled up Athanaze.
Washington Sundar has been steady from the other end, but the two West Indies batters are looking more comfortable against spin now. That's the benefit of spending time in the middle. If only the top-order had realised it!
That was nasty! A stinging bouncer from Jasprit Bumrah and Alick Athanaze took his eyes off the ball while trying to duck. He was hit on the backside of the helmet.
The medical team is conducting a concussion test right now. It seems Athanaze is okay. But, there has been a delay as the helmet is being changed.
The two batters in the middle are using the time to have a drink in the middle.
Bumrah has roughened up the young left-hander. Expect a yorker next?
A good review from Alick Athanaze. Washington Sundar, coming around the wicket to the left-hander,fired one in and it appeared to hit the pad. He appealed and the on-field umpire gave it out.
However, Athanaze took a review without any second thoughts. Replays showed a big inside-edge, which saves the young batter.
He survives and will look to battle on.
There's the change in attitude and it immediately reflects on the scoreboard. Justin Greaves and Alick Athanaze are keeping the scoreboard moving by being proactive. These two have added 20 runs in four overs since the start of the second session.
Their partnership for the fourth wicket now reads 40.

Jasprit Bumrah concedes 8 runs in his first over in the second session. Justin Greaves and Alick Athanaze are looking to keep the scoreboard moving and that's the right way to go. They can't sit back and wait for things to happen.
Greaves, a more-than-a-handy-batter, punches a full delivery from Bumrah in the vacant mid-off area to collect a boundary. A positive shot from the all-rounder.
A good start this for the West Indies. They haven't lost a wicket in the first over after lunch. Washington Sundar was getting the ball to rip off the surface.
Head coach Darren Sammy would have spoken some tough words in the dressing room during the lunch break. Can Athanaze and Graves delay the inevitable?
Jasprit Bumrah is back into the attack after bowling just 3 overs with the new ball.

Will India throw the ball to their next set of bowlers now?
Will Nitish Kumar Reddy get a bowl? India need to look ahead to the South Africa series and this session might give them the perfect opportunity to give the likes of Washington and Nitish a run with the ball.
West Indies will resume on 66 for 5 with Alick Athanaze and Justin Greaves in the middle. Can they fight on? They are still trail by 220 runs.
West Indies are 220 runs behind and are staring at an innings defeat. Ravindra Jadeja was the star of the show with three wickets in the first session. Kuldeep Yadav picked up a wicket and bowled with good control.
Mohammed Siraj began the hunt with the wicket of Tagenarine Chanderpaul. He bowled 7 overs with the new ball, showing he is a real workhorse.
Barring Alick Athanaze, who remains unbeaten on 27, none of the other West Indies batters showed application and the stomach to survive. It's has not been dreadful conditions for the batters, yet, West Indies have struggled to even put up a fight.
Ravindra Jadeja looked in complete control, bowling with control and the intensity of a senior campaigner. India's catching and fielding have been on point.
How long can the West Indies survive?
The 26-year-old, who was once praised by R Ashwin, is showing some fight. He has played a couple of reverse sweeps and kept the scoreboard moving. Alick Athanaze has gone past the 25-run mark. Can he kick on and get a big one here?
West Indies will benefit if one of their batters shows some spine and gets a hunndred.
Justin Greaves, at the other end, has looked comfortable so far.
Can these two take the W'Indies to lunch without further damage?

Another good review from India. Wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel has been spot on today. Ravindra Jadeja went up in appeal after a half-hearted forward defence from Alick Athanaze. The left-hander had the ball hit his pad first before it went on to hit his bat.
The on-field umpire didn't give it out. But, the replays confirmed that the ball hit the pad first and went on to hit the stumps. However, the umpire's call on impact stays as the ball was seen hitting the pads just outside the line of the off-stump.
A huge sigh of relief for young Athanaze.
Justin Greaves, a handy all-rounder, is the new man in. West Indies once again have a right-left combination. Alick Athanaze is going solid at the other end. Can someone hang around and give him company?
Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav are bowling with wonderful rhythm. It's not easy being a visiting batter against this quality of spin, but the West Indies have not shown the hunger to hang around. They have shown no conviction with their defence and attacking shots.
WICKET! Another one bites the dust. This is disappointing from the West Indies. Shai Hope, one of their best batters in this line-up, is out for 1.
A length ball from Ravindra Jadeja and Hope tries to cut it past the point fielder. However, the extra bounce does him in. He is not able to control the shot and the ball is in air. It is safely taken by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who dives forward for a good catch.
West Indies are in tatters here, having lost half their side for just 46 runs.
Can Shai Hope resist the Indian charge? He is one of the more established West Indies batters in this line-up. He has 18 ODI hundreds to his name and he has an opportunity to lead West Indies's fightback here.
Alick Athanaze, meanwhile, is showing some courage. Instead of poking and waiting for the one with his number, he is playing some innovative shots. He has reverse swept Ravindra Jadeja for two boundaries to move into double digits.
WICKET! That was a ripper from Kuldeep Yadav. A bit of drift and the ball held its line. Roston Chase, one of West Indies's most experienced batters, was playing for the turn, which wasn't there. He was beaten on the outside edge and the off-stump went for a walk. That was a flatter, faster delivery after two full, loopy ones. A wonderful set-up!
The West Indies dugout looked gutted after that dismissal. It's unravelling quickly for the visitors here. Jadeja and Kuldeep are having a ball in the morning session.

Roston Chase is the new man in at No. 5. Can he step up and show the way for the rest of the batting unit? West Indies need to show a bit of application in the middle. At the moment, it seems like they are not confident at all about their ability to defend and keep the Indian spinners at bay.
The scorecard might look ugly if the West Indies don't resist this Indian charge in the morning session.
WICKET! Brandon King is out for 5. West Indies lose their third wicket. Ravindra Jadeja gets his second wicket of the morning.
It's a disappointing effort from the right-hander, who was trying to be proactive against th eleft-arm spinner. A length ball that spins away sharply and King gets a healthy outside edge. KL Rahul takes a nice low catch in the slip cordon.

Yes, as expected, spin from both ends right after the drinks break. Kuldeep Yadav was getting good, sharp turn in his first over. He troubled Alick Athanaze by spinning it away from the left-hander.
India have bowled 14 overs in an hour. With Ravindra Jadeja bowling half of it, there was no problem with their over rate. The players are having drinks and bananas. It's hot and humid out there in Ahmedabad. The two players, Athanaze and King, are doing some stretching.
Can West Indies have a better second hour?
India are not far away from operating with spin from both ends.

That's a cheeky, yet thoughtful recommendation. Sunil Gavaskar, on air, observes that the Indian players are being extremely chirpy around the bat. The legendary batter suggests the batters, these days, can wear noise cancellation devices when batting.
"How will they communicate?" asks Murali Karthik.
"They don't have to. Just look at your partner and understand what's going on," reckons Gavaskar.
What do you all think of this idea? We can, maybe, avoid a lot of sledging battles if it's implemented.
Can the West Indies survive a couple of sessions? Brandon King is the new man in. West Indies have a right-left combination after the first two wickets. Can this pair resist the Indian onslaught? Siraj is also coming to the end of his spell. Won't be surprised if India go for spin from both ends early.
A short-leg and a leg-slip for Athanaze now as Jadeja zones in on a good length and line.
India get another wicket in the bag. Ravindra Jadeja gets the extra bounce off the pitch and John Campbell just gently taps it onto the man at silly point. Sai Sudharsan makes no mistake of that catch and India have sent both openers back in the hut.

Ravindra Jadeja looked close to a breakthrough! The ball didnât turn much, but the Indian team went all out with the appeal. The umpire, however, was unconvinced. In the excitement, Jadeja tumbled while celebrating the appeal. Fortunately, he seems to be fine and back on his feet. Replays show there was no edge off the bat as well. Pitched it slightly on a length and was hoping for the turn.

West Indies need partnerships. John Campbell has looked good so far, leaving balls outside off and not being tempted to poke at deliveries. He has been joined by Alick Athanaze.
West Indies need to show the stomach to fight. They should be happy that India did not make them field another day in this weather in Ahmedabad. Can they step up with the bat?
An early wicket wouldn't help the morale in the dressing room.
That was some catch from Nitish Kumar Reddy! Mohammed Siraj troubles Tagenarine Chanderpaul with a bouncer. The young left-hander goes for the pull shot, but he is caught at mid-wicket by Nitish Kumar Reddy. The all-rounder dived to his left to complete a terrific catch.
Siraj is bowling with some good heat. His energy has been, as usual, up to the mark in the morning session.

Spin as early as the 7th over. India are making it clear. They want to wrap it up as early as possible.
Shubman Gill throws the ball early to vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja to see how much help the spinners get with the new ball. There is turn for the left-arm spinner.
But, is he bowling from the right end? It seems there are a lot more footmarks outside the batters off-stump on the other end of the pitch.
We will wait and see how Shubman handles his spinners and pacers today.

Mohammed Siraj is looking a lot more threatening after coming to bowl from around the wicket to the two left-handed openers. After ruffling John Campbell with a bouncer and inducing a top-edge, Siraj gets one to straighten and hit Tagenarine Chanderpaul's pads. Tagenarine was squared up and Mohammed Siraj went up in appeal.
However, the umpire wasn't interested. Siraj appeared to think of a review, but wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel immediately suggests that the ball was hitting the left-hander outside the line of the off-stump.
Apart from his hundred and excellent work with the gloves, Dhruv Jurel has been spot on with DRS calls as well.
Both Tagenarine Chanderpaul and John Campbell have looked solid. They are not getting drawn into shots. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are keeping it tight.
Bumrah, bowling his third over, is now coming around the wicket to Campbell.

It's a good bright morning in Ahmedabad. Siraj's seam position is spot on. He is getting a hint of swing.
By, the way, there are not many fans at the Narendra Modi Stadium. It's a Saturday and had India batted on, a few fans would have walked in. Will they still do?
It's a bright sunny day and Jasprit Bumrah has the new ball. Why would India declare? Yes, they had a lead of 286. But, they had the opportunity to bat long and box the West Indies out of the Test.
It seems the Indian team is intent on getting done with this Test early and head to Delhi.

Big news at the start of play: India have declared their innings. A surprising move, given the number of batters still at the crease, but it could set up a quick finish to this Test if the hosts continue their dominance. The West Indies now face the challenge of chasing a massive lead under pressure.
Aakash Chopra believes that India should go on for an unassailable lead and also give someone like Nitish Kumar Reddy a go with the bat and see how far he can go. After a big breakthrough against Australia, the young all-rounder has not been able to make a similar impact. Perhaps his first Test at home could be the chance he was waiting for.
Dhruv Jurel celebrated in style after scoring his maiden Test hundred against the West Indies. The 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter made 125 off 210 balls, including 15 boundaries and three sixes, helping India reach 448/5 and a lead of 286.
Jurelâs celebrations were heartfelt: his fifty was for his father, and his hundred was dedicated to the Indian Army, reflecting the respect he has for soldiers. Speaking after the match, he said the tribute was long in his mind, inspired by seeing his fatherâs connection to the army.
Even when not playing, Jurel stays disciplined and motivated, working hard to seize opportunities. With Rishabh Pant recovering from injury, the young batter is making a strong case to remain a regular in the team as a specialist batter.
Having just come onto bat on the final few minutes of Day 2, Washington Sundar now has the chance to once again prove why he should be a sure-shot start in this Test team. With no pressure and all the time in the world, can the young all-rounder go big with the bat? Funnily enough he started off his cricketing career with the bat and it was only later where his off-spin was considered to be more valuable.
Ravindra Jadeja joins an elite club. The all-rounder notched his sixth Test century, becoming only the sixth player ever to score six or more hundreds while also taking over 300 wickets in the longest format. A remarkable milestone for the left-arm all-rounder.
