IND vs WI Highlights, 2nd Test Day 4: India (518/5 d, 63/1), Sudharsan-Rahul play out till stumps

What a day of Test cricket! The visitors showed incredible resilience and refused to let the game slip away. Shai Hope and John Campbell led from the front with sparkling centuries, while the last-man stand between Justin Greaves and Jayden Seales added crucial runs after following on. It was a display of determination that kept India on its toes. 

Yet, India remains firmly in control. With 57 runs still required and nine wickets in hand, the hosts are favourites to seal the win tomorrow. But cricket being cricket, the turning pitch and a determined West Indies could still spice things up on the final day.

For now, that’s a wrap from Day 4. Rahul and Sudharsan are unbeaten and ready to continue the chase, and we’ll be back tomorrow to see the thrilling conclusion.

We have the final over of the day. Roston Chase has set up a really attacking field here. There's a short gully and a silly point, and a slip fielder. Sudharsan has the perfect chance to exact his revenge on John Campbell, but they play out the day's play.

A productive over for India, with Rahul showcasing patience and precision before unleashing a touch of class midway through.

He began by neatly flicking one through mid-wicket for a couple, then settled into defence for a few deliveries. But Pierre’s persistence finally met its match — a flighted ball on middle and leg, and Rahul timed it to perfection! A smooth flick into the mid-wicket pocket that raced away for a boundary. Elegant, effortless, effective. 

Rahul looks well set, rotating between grit and grace as India’s chase rolls on.

Roston Chase comes into the attack but its a poor start from the West Indies as he bowls a full toss and Sudharsan clobbers it to the covers for a boundary. 

A better comeback from the West Indies skipper as he forces the edge off Sudharsan but it goes right in between the slips. The soft-hands coming into play here as the ball races away for another boundary. 

2nd Test, Day 4 Live Score: India (518/5d, 55/1) vs (WI 278, 390) need 66 runs to win. Rahul (19*), Sudharsan (28*).

A disciplined over from Pierre, keeping it flat and tidy as the batters continued their patient pursuit of the target.

Rahul and Sudharsan were content to rotate strike when possible, each picking up a single with neat placement — Rahul punching one off the back foot, Sudharsan working one through the on-side. Pierre’s line and pace, however, kept both batters watchful for the rest of the over.

No risks, no rush — India happy to build steadily towards victory.

A mixed bag from Warrican — a touch of drift, a hint of turn, and some sharp running from the batters.

Sudharsan began with a firm push to cover, nearly finding the gap, before capitalizing on a misfield to sneak a single next ball. Rahul then took charge, throwing his hands at a tossed-up delivery and carving it past point — two runs for the effort and some intent to go with it! He finished the over with another sliced single behind point to keep things ticking.

India’s batters are playing smart cricket — measured defence, sharp placement, and controlled aggression.

Right then, we are down to the last five overs of the day. The interesting point to note is that the ball is certainly having quite a bit of turn. India need just 80 runs to win and they can comfortably do so by the end of the final day. Question is if the West Indies can get a few wickets to put the pressure on India. 

A quiet, composed over from Pierre — keeping it flat and tight, not giving much away. Rahul and Sudharsan were content to rotate strike and play risk-free cricket.

Sai started things off with a neat clip off his pads for a single, Rahul joined in with one of his own, and the rest was all about solid defence. Pierre varied his pace nicely and got some drift, but both batters looked settled, reading him well.

India in full control — steady hands on the chase.

A testing over from Warrican — slow, teasing, and packed with flight! 

He kept Rahul guessing with subtle variations in pace and trajectory. Rahul, though solid in defence, couldn’t quite pierce the field. There were a few inside edges, a couple of watchful prods, and a lot of patience from the Indian opener.

Warrican mixed it up cleverly — from loopy temptations to quicker darts at the pads — but Rahul stood his ground, refusing to bite. A small win for the spinner, this one.

A lively over from Pierre — some flight, a touch of guile, but also a touch of class from Sai Sudharsan!

Rahul started things off with a confident punch through the offside for a single, before Sudharsan showed his silky wrists once again. Pierre floated one up outside off, and Sudharsan leaned forward, timing a gorgeous wristy drive that split wide mid-off for four. Pure elegance — he’s making these look effortless.

The rest of the over saw tidy bowling and sharp defence from both batters, but India’s momentum keeps ticking along nicely.

A tidy start from Khary Pierre, but Sai Sudharsan had the final say!

Pierre began with good control, teasing the batters with flight and slower through-the-air variations. Sai Sudharsan looked patient, nudging and blocking a few as he tried to find the gaps, while Rahul calmly rotated the strike.

But Pierre’s accuracy slipped on the last ball — a loopy one drifting onto the pads — and Sudharsan gleefully flicked it fine, threading it past short fine leg. Campbell gave chase, but the ball had other plans, rolling away for a sweet boundary!

Oh, that was silky smooth! Warrican tossed one up a touch too full, and Sai Sudharsan didn’t need a second invitation. No slogging, no muscle — just pure timing and class. That shot had “textbook” written all over it. Warrican will be ruing that length, while Sudharsan just added another frame to his highlight reel.

Sai Sudharsan seems to have forgotten that the pitch offers quite a bit of turn. Leaves one way outside off but the ball from Warrican turns in quite a bit. He follows it up with a fine sweep shot here but has to settle for a single.

Oh dear! KL Rahul seems to have copped a blow straight to the nether regions, and he is immediately screaming in pain here. The physios come rushing in, but the good news is that he seems to be okay. Shubman Gill on the other hand, is all padded up and ready to go if needed. KL Rahul is still wincing in pain but seems to be doing better for the moment.

And that ends an interesting innings for Jaiswal. His attempt to play Jaisball and take on Warrican sees him get caught at the boundary. Was that shot needed? Not really in the context of things. Now Sudharsan comes on.

Oh, hello! The Indian chase and we see a big shot from Yashasvi Jaiswal. He misses out by a whisker in the first attempt, and on the third attempt he gets it to the boundary. The fourth ball is a review from the West Indies as they feel Jaiswal got some bat on it. He survived that review and the next ball goes to the boundary. 

An eventful over indeed and now it over to KL Rahul. Will he go the same?

And finally! Bumrah gets the wicket as Seales hits it up in the air and straight into the hands of Sundar. KL Rahul and Yashavi Jaiswal go running into the dressing room as the chase will be on soon. They need 121 to win and sweep the series 2-0. Can India pull it off with 18 overs left?

Jasprit Bumrah is back, and Justin Greaves just gets a single to get to his fifty. It has been a resolute innings from the all-rounder and he has guided Seales well. And the No.11 has just hit Bumrah with a pull shot for a boundary. And now, West Indies are getting closer to 400 runs in the second innings.

The body language just seems off at the moment. Dhruv Jurel has dropped a couple chances, Bumrah looks like his leg has added a couple of pounds and Kuldeep has conceded 100 runs in an innings for the first time in Test cricket. The lead is now more than 100 runs at the moment. The frustration just keeps growing.

Despite being slammed online, Gautam Gambhir seems to be in a good mood and was seen having a laugh with Sitanshu Kothak. India needs a wicket and they will try to chase the target today itself.

After a stunning over from Kuldeep Yadav, India have spin from the other end as well with Ravindra Jadeja. India are keeping it very simple and looking to keep Seales on strike for the most part. West Indies keeps adding to the lead and is approaching 100 at the moment.

The Indian players look tired at the moment as they come out from the tea break. But they know that it is a matter of just one wicket and then the bowlers can keep their legs up and rest a bit. And it's Kuldeep Yadav who will start proceedings right after tea for the final session.

India have been kept waiting here in New Delhi as the final wicket partnership between Greaves and Jayden Seales add 50 runs in 73 balls.

Shubman Gill has tried every single bowler - APART FROM NITISH REDDY (for some inexplicable reason) – but nothing has come off.

West Indies finish the session at 361/9, with a lead of 91 runs.

West Indies have crossed 350 runs in the second innings. This is only the second time that a visiting team has hit a 350+ total in the last 10 years.

The first instance of that was England's 420 in Hyderabad in 2024 - a game that the Ben Stokes' side won.

The second session on Day 4 has been extended as the tail continues to wag for the visitors.

India have not been able to put pressure on the West Indian No.11 - Jayden Seales - who has just hit Jadeja for a massive six through mid wicket.

Greaves and Seales have added 39 runs in just 57 balls.

There seems to be a lapse in concentration from the Indian side. They have leaked 15 runs in the last over, including two boundaries.

Of course India are way ahead of the Windies, but this needless conceding of runs is not pleasing to the eye at all.'

Back to half-sleeves and the move seems to have worked for the India pacer. 

A classic Bumrah-special!  Good length delivery which sent the leg-stump flying. 

The West Indies comeback hopes seem to be one for the history books.

West Indies breach the 300-run mark, but the journey became bumpy for the side at the very end. 

Kuldeep Yadav has single-handedly messed up the entire momentum that West Indies had built since yesterday and built up on all morning. 

The West Indies batters are just rushing things too much, and it looks problematic for the side.

Kuldeep Yadav has got the big wicket!! It is the West Indies skipper Roston Chase who departs. 

The wickets have now finally started nto come in for India, and this will be good sign in the eyes of skipper Shubman Gill.

Chase mistimed a leg-stump delivery, sending it to Padikkal, who slid across to take a clean two-handed catch.

West Indies lead, but India is gradually closing in.

The spinner is a little lucky as the ball keeps low from short of good length and bamboozles the Windies batter.

That is one odd call.

Because, India could have easily given the ball to Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has been picked because of his all-rounder attributes.

Yet he has not bowled in this innings yet.

The marking of duties from this management is straightout odd.

A slight lapse of concentration from Shai Hope, and he has to walk back right after getting to his ton. Length ball, it keeps low. Hope tries to drive the ball for four. He gets a thick inside edge and the ball crashes into his stumps.

West Indies have avoided an innings defeat.

For the first time in 11 Tests where they were followed-on. Roston Chase and Shai Hope have put up a fight and put the Windies in a position from where they can capitalise.

Yes, it is an uphill task, and Windies need everything they have to put in a fighting total against India.

Shai Hope gets a streaky boundary through the slips and reaches his first Test hundred in 8 years!

What a knock. What a gritty, gritty knock from the West Indies batter. First he negotiated the spinners and then kept his discipline against the old and new ball.

This is a knock that West Indies should be proud of. This is a knock that proves that West Indies can, when they apply themselves with strong mentality. This is a knock that proves that West Indies belong in Test cricket.

81.6: Mohammed Siraj to Shai Hope, FOUR! HUNDRED FOR HOPE! 8 years after his heroic twin hundreds against England, Shai Hope brings up his 3rd Test ton. This has been a classy knock and he has looked in good control right from ball one. Mohammed Siraj pulls his length back a bit, on off, keeps low, Hope looks to play at it but gets an outside edge. As he plays with soft hands, it goes along the ground and past KL Rahul at first slip for a boundary. He raises his bat and helmet to soak in all the applause.

India waste no time in taking the new ball. Jasprit Bumrah bowls the first over with the brand new SG ball and gets it to shape into the right handers. 

Roston Chase flails his bat outside off and gets a streaky boundary through point.

India bring Mohammed Siraj from the other end.

The second session starts on Day 4.

Kuldeep Yadav has the old ball in his hand. It is 78 overs and India hopefully will opt for the new ball right away.

Shai Hope hits Kuldeep for a boundary in the first over after restart and gets to 96.

78.4: Kuldeep Yadav to Shai Hope, FOUR! Good shot! Kuldeep Yadav drags his length back, on middle, turns into the leg side. Shai Hope rocks back and pulls it away to the deep square leg fence for a boundary. He is just one hit away from a hundred now!

This is probably the second session in the entire series that West Indies have dominated.

When India followed-on West Indies, they hoped to finish this game in Day 3, or morning session of Day 4 at best.

However, a gritty display from the Windies batting order has meant that they are just 18 runs behind India's 518 total and still have 7 wickets in hand.

India had a small breakthrough when they were able to shut the door on the 177-run stand between Campbell and Hope. The left hander was trapped LBW while trying to play a reverse sweep.

However, India failed to make inroads after that and ended up getting dominated by Shai Hope and Roston Chase, who dictated the pace of play.

Shubman Gill tried to switch between his spinners, but apart from Jadeja, and some flashes from Kuldeep, mostly they were rendered ineffective.

Shai Hope survives a very tricky Kuldeep Yadav over.

Kuldeep gets some purchase from the fuller length. Hope has been consistently shuffling into the stumps and blocking with bat and pad.

One of the balls zips into him, and hits him on the left pad. The ball gets trapped into his thighs and ends up getting rolled back into the stumps.

The ball just about goes past the leg stump and Hope just about survives.

76.3: Kuldeep Yadav to Shai Hope, Oh my! So close! Shai Hope is lucky to still be there! This is flighted, full, and on middle, turns in sharply with bounce. Hope looks to defend but misses as the ball hits his pads. There is a bit of pinball onto his gloves as the ball drops on the pitch and rolls behind. Hope tries to stop it with his foot, but fails to do so, and the ball just goes inches past the leg stump.

At the moment, it feels that if you do not play a risky shot, it is difficult to throw away your wicket.

Apart from that ill timed reverse sweep, West Indies have been largely solid, and that has helped them add nearly 70 runs in the morning session.

Kuldeep and Washi Sundar have been rendered ineffective so far, which has forced Shubman to once again bring in Ravindra Jadeja just before Lunch.

Shubman Gill is desperate for a wicket here. Which is a good thing, because the Windies have nearly nuetralised the deficit after being followed-on.

Both Roston Chase and Shai Hope are looking comfortable against Washi Sundar and that's why Shubman has decided to bring in Kuldeep.

The leg spinner starts with a 2-run over.

Unlike the two batters who started the day with utmost discipline, West Indies captain Roston Chase has whacked Washington Sundar for a six in the spinner's very first over today.

Washi had looked the most threatening among the Indian bowlers yesterday, but gets the treatment early from Chase today.

We need to talk about this follow-on thing.

After a long time, someone in Indian cricket was brave enough to follow-on the opposition. But the way it has turned out, I doubt that we will see another follow-on in the near future.

The wicket of John Campbell has brought out West Indies captain Roston Chase.

A super technical batter, who has perhaps underachieved in international cricket will hope to double down on Campbell's innings and help his team put up a competitive total against India.

The visitors are still 53 runs behind.

Edged but nothing! Dhruv Jurel does not even get to the ball. Neither does KL Rahul at first slip. John Campbell survives.

But Jadeja strikes in the very next ball of the over.

On the middle stump to the left hander. Campbell tries to reverse sweep the ball and ends up getting beaten. Umprie gives it out after a long wait. 

West Indies review, but it is three dots.

India have finally broken the partnership which lasted nearly 50 overs.

India batter Sai Sudharsan, who was off field for the entirety of Day 3 is fielding on the ground today.

Looks like the finger injury was just a bruise.

India have made their first bowling change of the morning. Mohammed Siraj comes into the attack, replacing Jasprit Bumrah.

Bumrah bowled well in his short morning spell today, and was unlucky to get a wicket.

Meanwhile, West Indies have crossed the 200-run mark in their final innings.

Jasprit Bumrah is bowling well this morning. Twice he has come close to the off stump and once a huge appeal for an LBW has been denied.

54.5: Jasprit Bumrah to John Campbell, Massive appeal for LBW from Bumrah and Dhruv Jurel, but the umpire shakes his head. Bumrah looks convinced as he says to his skipper, Shubman Gill, that it is very much plumb if the bat isn't involved, and that tempts the Indian skipper to take a review here. Bumrah bowls it on a length and around middle, gets it to come back in from the around-the-wicket angle. John Campbell gets half-forward on his front foot and looks to flick it with an angled bat, but gets a bit late. The ball thuds his front pad before John hits his bat to his pad. The third umpire is called in, and it shows a spike on the UltraEdge. NOT-OUT is the final call.

Also, the umpires have been forced to change the ball after the old one went out of shape.

But the new ball has no resemblance to the old ball at all. This one is hard and firm, and the seam is much more prominent than the last one that went out of use. 

Windies might have some complaints about that one if they lose a wicket in the next few overs.

We have the first boundary of the morning. And it has come off Jasprit Bumrah's bowling.

West Indies are quite watchful against Jadeja and Bumrah in the first few overs of this match. Unlike the first Test in Ahmedabad, they have not flailed their bats at everything hoping to get a boundary. Both Campbell and Hope have focused hard and have tried to defend everything that is bowled on the stumps.

At the moment, they do not have any problem in giving away maiden overs.

Shubman Gill does not keep Bumrah waiting like the day before and brings him right into the attack.

West Indies start Day 4 at 173/2 with Campbell (87) and Hope (66) at the crease. They will need to bat their hearts out to keep the Windies alive in this game.

West Indies put up an admirable fight in the final session of Day 3. John Campbell and Shai Hope put together a 138-run stand, the first time the Windies have shown such resistance against the Indian bowling line-up.

India had enforced the follow-on against the Windies hoping for a swift end to this Test match. However, the move backfired as the Indian bowlers, tired from the heat failed to pick wickets against the visitors.

However, the Test match is still heavy in India's favour. West Indies are still 97 runs away and will need to play out Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, who will be fresh after a night's rest.
