RR vs MI, IPL 2025 Highlights: Rajasthan lose to Mumbai by 100 runs, get knocked out of IPL

Right then, that is it from this one-sided affair where Mumbai Indians move to the top of the table and knock the Rajasthan Royals out of the playoff race. The action in the IPL 2025 now moves to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where the Gujarat Titans take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad on 2nd May, Friday. Ryan Rickelton is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant knock of 61 off 38. He says that his family came down this week and it was great to put a show ahead of them. Adds that they are finding the momentum at the right time as a group. Mentions that he and Rohit Sharma both had a slow start to the season, but they are getting into good rhythm as a partnership now. Says that coming to India, you have to alter your hand according to the conditions. Ends by saying that they have a great think tank, but they let him do his thing.

The victorious captain of Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya, is all smiles and walks up for a chat. Begins by calling it a perfect win for them. Says they were clinical with both bat and ball. Admits that they could have got 15 more runs on the board, but they missed out on a few deliveries. Adds they were trying to speak to each other to play percentage shots. Also appreciates the way Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton batted. On the opening partnership, and sending Suryakumar at number 3, he says it is not about getting chances, but more situational. Mentions that people are going back to batsmanship. Says as a group, the way they batted was proper batsmanship. Adds that everyone is really clear in their minds about their roles. Further tells they are backing to play simple cricket and it is working for them. Concludes by saying they want to take one game at a time and be humble and more disciplined.

Presentation Time...

Trent Boult is up for a quick chat. He says that it was a great all-round performance and he can't ask for anything more than that as a unit. Adds that there are a lot of combinations and winning six in a row is great. Mentions that he has a bit of experience on this wicket and it is one of the best ones in terms of bounce. Praises Jasprit Bumrah and says he is just class apart. Ends by saying that they don't want to get too ahead of themselves and will focus on the next one.

The captain of Rajasthan Royals, Riyan Parag, first credits the way Mumbai Indians batted, and took the game deep by scoring 10 runs per over. Reckons 190 was an ideal score, but adds Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav just switched at the end and accelerated. Points that they have been getting good starts, but admits the middle order needs to step up. Adds they back themselves and says they have done a lot of right things as well. But rues by saying a lot of things have gone wrong as well. Says they just want to focus on the things they have done right. Mentions about focusing well as they have had a few close games. Is hopeful that they will do better in the next game.

Mumbai Indians were simply brilliant, sending a strong message to the rest of the competition - their bowling attack is not to be taken lightly. Deepak Chahar set the tone with a wicket in the very first over, and Trent Boult followed it up with two quick strikes to put RR on the back foot. Then came Jasprit Bumrah, whose introduction completely swung the momentum MI’s way as he picked up two wickets in his first over, dismantling RR’s top order. Hardik Pandya chipped in with one, and impact player Karn Sharma cleaned up further with three wickets to seal a clinical performance. Boult came in and wrapped things up to register an emphatic victory.

Earlier in the game, Mumbai Indians piled on a daunting total thanks to composed half-centuries from Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton, setting the perfect platform. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya then went into overdrive, adding quick-fire 40s to give the innings a blazing finish. For the opposition, only Maheesh Theekshana and Riyan Parag managed to pick up a wicket each, but overall, their bowling unit struggled and proved to be far too expensive on the day.

When you're bowled out for 117 chasing 219 in a must-win game, there's little to defend about the batting effort. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, fresh off a sensational hundred in the previous match, fell for a duck this time, while Yashasvi Jaiswal couldn't build on a couple of big shots and departed early too - setting the tone for a disastrous chase. From there, it was a procession, as batters came and went without forging any meaningful partnerships, and RR crashed to a heavy defeat.

Mumbai Indians storm into Jaipur and deliver a commanding performance! Their first win at this venue since 2012, and what a one-sided affair it was. The Men in Blue outclassed Rajasthan Royals in all three departments, cruising to their sixth straight win and climbing to the top of the table. For RR, though, the journey ends here - they become the second team to be knocked out of the tournament after CSK.

6.6: Jasprit Bumrah to Dhruv Jurel, An appeal for caught behind, but not entertained. Another sharp bouncer from Bumrah, going down the leg stump line. Jurel misses to pull it away but misses. The ball passes very close to the bat and the keeper collects it. Oh, hang on! Dhruv Jurel has sent it upstairs to challenge for a wide not called. UltraEdge comes up and shows a flat line as the ball passes close to the bat. Now, onto the Ball Tracking. The third umpire mentions that the ball is passing well below the head height and it is called a fair delivery.

There was some confusion about who takes the review here. Initially, we saw Ryan Rickelton signal his skipper to take the review for a caught behind, but Hardik Pandya did not go for it. After that, Dhruv Jurel takes the review for a wide call, but the replay clearly suggests it is a fair delivery.

Slight Halt! It looks like Shubham Dubey is not happy with his bat and asks for a replacement. He selects his preferred one and we are good to go again.

4.5: Jasprit Bumrah to Shimron Hetmyer, OUT! TAKEN! Wow...that is a spectacular grab from SKY! Jasprit Bumrah gets two in two and is on a hat-trick now. He bangs this one into the pitch and around middle. Shimron Hetmyer gets on top of it and connects with his pull well. However, Suryakumar Yadav at short mid-wicket had other ideas. He shows great reflexes to leap up and takes a stunner with both hands right above his head. RR lose half their side now inside the Powerplay!

4.4: Jasprit Bumrah to Riyan Parag, OUT! TAKEN! BOOM BOOM STRIKES! It's going from bad to worse for RR! Jasprit Bumrah steams in and bangs in a sharp bouncer, on middle, once again gets extra bounce. Riyan Parag stays back and looks to pull it away but gets hurried and a fails to handle the pace and bounce. The ball takes the top edge and goes straight up in the air towards mid-wicket, where Rohit Sharma takes a dolly. Rajasthan Royals are reeling at 47/4 now!

Welcome back to RR's reply with the bat. The umpires and players are out to the middle. Hardik Pandya leads his troops as the Mumbai Indians scatter out to the park and take their fielding positions. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, lovingly nicknamed as 'Boss Baby', are the two openers for Rajasthan Royals. And it will be Deepak Chahar to open the bowling attack for MI. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

This is the second time that the Rajasthan Royals have a target of 200 plus to chase, in Jaipur this season. Just a few moons back, we saw a whirlwind century from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who helped RR chase down 208 against GT. But, he and Jaiswal will be up against a quality pace quartet of the Mumbai Indians. Will be interesting how they go against the likes of Bumrah and Boult early on. Also, ICYMI, Mumbai Indians have not beaten Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur since 2012. Will they end this drought this time around? Run chase up next very shortly. Stay tuned.

Rohit Sharma hands over the Orange Cap to Suryakumar Yadav and is ready for a flash interview. Rohit says that it was important for them to get to a good start. Add that they took a couple of overs to assess the conditions and then took their chances. Mentions that they looked to hit straight as the ball was skidding through on the surface. Says that he was worried about whether it pitched in line or not on his review, as he knew it was a knuckleball and there was not much bounce on it, and luckily it went his way. Praises Ryan Rickelton and says that he works really hard on his game and if he gets a score, it helps them to continue the momentum. Further adds that it is important for them to understand the pitch here, and also keep in mind that one square boundary is shorter than the other. So, they have to bowl accordingly. Ends by saying that they have a strong middle order and we saw in the last game, those 30-40 runs from Corbin Bosch and Naman Dhir were crucial. Ends by saying that that also gives them a lot of confidence to take a few chances at the top.

Enter Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya, who systematically dismantled any hopes of a Rajasthan comeback. The duo countered RR's increasingly defensive bowling approach with clinical precision, turning the screws even tighter. Rather than hunting for wickets, RR's bowlers appeared content to contain boundaries, which backfired spectacularly. SKY and Hardik toyed with field placements, accelerated at will, and scored 71 runs off the last five overs.

It looked like a good batting track, and the bowlers did mix up their pace to deceive the batters, but the MI openers had formed a solid launchpad for the middle overs. Both kept finding boundaries at regularity, with Rickelton getting to his third fifty of the season. MI were cruising along nicely with the scoring rate hovering around and above 10s per over, going unblemished halfway through. A slight ray of hope emerged for RR as they bagged two quick wickets by sending both Rickelton and Rohit in the dugout in quick succession. But they couldn't consolidate on that momentum.

After settling their eyes for a couple of overs, the openers of Mumbai Indians got off to a positive start and hit their straps as Rohit and Rickelton, both, found quick boundaries inside the powerplay. RR used Theekshana's spin early on to trap the openers, but that ploy didn't work and Mumbai Indians bossed the field restrictions with 58/0 on the board. 

A highly dominating batting display from Mumbai Indians, to say the least. They have put on a mammoth total on the board, and their batting unit is scoring runs for fun and how! Four batters, all four scored 40-plus, and just took the wind out of the sails of RR's bowling attack. Another occasion on which Rajasthan Royals have conceded a score in excess of 200 at home this season.

Strategic Break. Rajasthan Royals did manage to dent Mumbai Indians by reducing them from 116/0 to 123/2, removing both Rohit and Rickelton in quick succession, but have failed to consolidate and stem the run flow since then. Rather, they have been counterattacked strongly by Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya's recovery partnership. The two have already added 38 runs off 20 balls, and with a streak of power hitters yet to come, MI is advancing towards a huge total and will aim to put something in excess of 220. Rajasthan Royals will be desperate enough to break this partnership and for that, Parag has summoned his ace pacer, Jofra Archer back into the attack. He is 2-0-20-0 so far and replaces Akash Madhwal.

Strategic Break. The early swing has waned away for the pacers and the openers of Mumbai Indians have dealt with the early phase with good mix of caution and aggression. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton both looked a bit tentative earlier on, but have found their groove and have struck boundaries, helping MI to boss up the powerplay. RR introduced early spin to trap the batters, though Theekshana created a couple of half chances, they haven't found a wicket yet.
