Big blow for RR as injured Riyan Parag misses LSG clash, Jadeja still in recovery
IPL 2026: Riyan Parag missed Rajasthan Royals' clash against Lucknow Super Giants with a hamstring injury. His absence, along with Ravindra Jadeja's continued recovery, has added to RR's playoff worries.

Rajasthan Royals suffered a major setback ahead of their crucial IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants after captain Riyan Parag was ruled out with a hamstring injury. With the playoff race entering its decisive phase, concerns have now grown around whether RR’s regular skipper will recover in time for the remainder of the league stage.
In Parag’s absence, Yashasvi Jaiswal stepped in as stand-in captain and led the side at the toss after winning and opting to bowl first. Jaiswal confirmed that the RR captain was unavailable because of a hamstring issue but remained hopeful that Parag could return for their next fixture against Punjab Kings on May 24.
“(On Riyan Parag) He had some hamstring injury and he'll be fine soon, I hope so. So, he's not playing this game,” Jaiswal said at the toss.
Meanwhile, RR are also continuing to monitor the fitness of Ravindra Jadeja, who missed another game while recovering from a minor knee niggle and an elbow issue. Rajasthan Royals had initially termed his absence as workload management before the coaching staff later confirmed the injury concern.
Jadeja had already missed RR’s previous clash against Delhi Capitals, and his recovery continues to be assessed on a day-to-day basis.
“(On Jadeja) Nothing much at the moment. Jaddu bhai is recovering. He has some niggles, but he'll be fine soon,” Jaiswal added.
WHY IS PARAG'S ABSENCE A PLAYOFF CONCERN FOR RR?
The timing of Riyan Parag’s injury could not have been worse for Rajasthan Royals.
RR currently sit fifth on the IPL 2026 points table with 12 points and remain one of the strongest contenders for the final available playoff spot. However, they still need results to go their way.
If Rajasthan Royals win both of their remaining league matches, qualification will be secured without depending on any other side. But even one defeat could leave them vulnerable in a tightly packed playoff race involving Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings.
Parag has had a moderate season with the bat in IPL 2026, scoring 258 runs in 11 matches at an average of 25.80 and a strike rate of 151.76. But beyond the numbers, RR will miss his presence as captain and his ability to control the middle overs under pressure.
Losing their skipper and one of their key middle-order batters at such a crucial stage could seriously disrupt Rajasthan Royals’ balance heading into the business end of the tournament.
