LSG vs SRH, IPL 2025 Highlights: Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen guide Hyderabad to 6-wicket win

Well then, another exciting game wraps up as we march toward the final stages of this IPL season. Sunrisers Hyderabad have officially ended Lucknow Super Giants’ playoff hopes, shifting the spotlight to the next contest. Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, both eliminated, now face off at Arun Jaitley Stadium. With RR playing their final match of the season, they'll be keen to finish on a high, while CSK, currently at the bottom, still have a couple of games left to restore some pride. Beyond the immediate result, both teams will look to refine their combinations with an eye on next season, ensuring this clash is anything but a dead rubber. SRH's Abhishek Sharma is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his match-winning knock of 59 off just 20 balls. He collects the award is walks to chat. On that incident with Digvesh, he begins by saying that everything is sorted out as they spoke after the game. Says that he would have had other plans it they batted first, but while chasing a total of 206, it was about making good use of the Powerplay. Says that he and Athatva had a chat that if they get their first ball in the arc, they will make smoke it out of the ground. The victorious captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pat Cummins, is up for a chat. He starts by saying that 205 was a bit more than they would have liked, but it could have been 220 at one stage, so it is fine. On Eshan Malinga, Cummins says that he has worked with the coaches throughout the season and has done well. Adds that when they are at their best with the bat, it doesn't look like they are taking risks and probably could have done it a few more times this season. Mentions that they want to end the season well and a place like Bengaluru offers a different challenge, so we might see a few others get an opportunity.

Time for the Presentation Ceremony...

It is time to hear from the Head Coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Daniel Vettori. He points out that it is a bit tough to get back after an extended break. Adds that the team had 3 good training sessions, and then pulling off a performance like this is fantastic. Mentions that Abhishek Sharma has been incredible and they are used to that kind of batting from him. Says that he was exceptional tonight against spin and his strike rate was out of this world. Adds that the development of the players, certain players step up sometimes, but it has been a difficult season for us. Stats that they are looking to give some game time to some players, and Kamindu and Eshan, two Sri Lankan boys, were exceptional tonight. He thinks that it's more about understanding the conditions, and they wanted Travis Head and Abhishek to go out there and play aggressive cricket. Says that you need to give credit to the bowling side as well and he wouldn't want to change the style rather adapt to the conditions quickly. Informs that Travis Head is in quarantine and he is good to go for the next 2 games.

The captain of Lucknow Super Giants, Rishabh Pant, says that it could have been one of their best seasons, but with all the injuries they had to begin with, it started to get difficult to close the gaps. Adds that the way they planned at the auction, they didn't have the same bowling attack during the tournament, which could have made a difference, but they want to look at the positives and at the future. Reckons that they have enough firepower in batting and even the bowlers bowled well in patches. On defending 205, Rishabh says that they were 10 runs short and just weren't able to use the momentum in their favor, which was the case for the tournament as well. On Digvesh Singh, he says that as a bowler, he has come up trumps in his first season, but as a team, they need to keep improving with time.

Earlier in the game, LSG’s openers wasted no time stamping their authority. Mitchell Marsh capitalized on a couple of lifelines to craft a commanding half-century, while Aiden Markram played with fearless intent, bringing up his own fifty. Their 115-run partnership set a solid foundation, but SRH clawed back with a couple of quick breakthroughs in the middle overs. Just as the innings seemed to taper, Nicholas Pooran's explosive 45 off 26 reignited the charge. However, the defining blow came in the final over, where Nitish Kumar Reddy’s expensive 20-run spell propelled LSG past the 200-run mark, which wasn't adequate enough in the end. For SRH, debutant Harsh Dubey showed promise, while Eshan Malinga impressed with a crucial two-wicket haul.

SRH did lose Ishan Kishan after a composed 41-run stand with Klaasen, but what worked in their favor was the measured approach from the incoming batters. There was no rush, no reckless strokes, just calculated batting that ensured stability. Kamindu Mendis and Klaasen played their roles seamlessly, keeping the innings on track as SRH cruised with ease. Meanwhile, LSG didn’t do themselves any favors, looking a bit lackadaisical in the field and also leaking too many extras, further tilting the game in SRH’s favor.

SRH remained in control as Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma dictated the chase with fearless intent, their stroke play crisp and commanding. Just as the momentum seemed unstoppable, Digvesh Singh provided a crucial breakthrough, dismissing Sharma. However, SRH quickly moved into a phase of consolidation, with Kishan joined by Klaasen. The two formed a responsible stand and dashed off any collapse as more than half the runs were already chewed towards the halfway mark.

The Sunrisers’ chase kicked off with a stutter as Atharva Taide, their Impact Player, departed early. But any hopes LSG had of tightening their grip were quickly dashed. Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma unleashed an attacking masterclass, keeping the bowlers guessing and refusing to let them settle. Sharma was particularly ruthless, making full use of the Powerplay as SRH raced to 72/1 in six overs, outpacing LSG early on.

A massive heartbreak for Lucknow Super Giants at their backyard as they are now eliminated from the playoff race. To be fair, it never looked like they could pull off this game and defend their total. They become the fifth team to get knocked out of the season, which means the fight for the fourth spot will be between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, who will play against each other on Wednesday, 21st May. Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, never looked even remotely threatened in the chase and they have made quite a habit of chasing totals north of 200, even in the season which hasn't gone their way.

Halt! Right after completing the run, Kamindu Mendis holds his thigh as he has pulled off the hamstring of his right leg. The physio is out in no time to check him up. Kamindu, for now, is on the ground and is being helped with some stretching. Meanwhile, a detailed discussion is going around in the LSG camp, as a few players, including skipper Pant and Nicholas Pooran, converge towards the bowler. Uh, oh! 17.3: Shardul Thakur to Heinrich Klaasen, OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Rishabh Pant knew it straight away and so did Heinrich Klaasen and the only possibility of a bump ball was also cleared by the third umpire. Shardul Thakur goes full and wide, flirting with the tramline outside off. Klaasen looks to reach out and squeeze it away behind square on the off side but ends up edging it behind to the keeper. At first, the on-field umpire unmoved and Pant wants to review, but soon enough, the umpire go upstairs to check the bump ball. Clear spike on UltraEdge and replays show that the ball bounced before hitting the bat, and Klaasen has to walk back after a solid knock.

A review for caught behind! Rishabh Pant looks a bit tentative to review it, but the umpires send it upstairs to check whether the ball bumped off the bat. The UltraEdge shows a clear spike and the ball hasn't bumped off the ground as it has carried straight to the keeper. OUT!

17.2: Shardul Thakur to Heinrich Klaasen, FOUR! Almost a no-look shot from Klaasen! A juicy full toss around off, Heinrich Klaasen whips it away to the right of deep mid-wicket and the ball just bounces inside the ropes before going over the ropes.

Strategic Break! Well, it's a pretty straightforward equation for SRH as they need just 27 off 24 deliveries, a tinge above run-a-ball from here, with seven wickets safe in the bank. Lucknow Super Giants are right on the cusp of getting eliminated, unless they pull off an absolute heist from this position. But with the likes of Nitish Kumar Reddy and Aniket Verma yet to come out to bat, and these two internationals glued at the crease, it is possibly the writing on the wall for LSG. The physio rushes out from the SRH camp to tend to Ishan Kishan for the mandatory concussion test. He looks fine to continue.

9.3: Avesh Khan to Ishan Kishan, Good change-up now! Avesh brings out the slower bumper now, bowling it around off and at an awkward height. Ishan Kishan is through the pull early and gets hit flush on the side of the helmet. A mandatory concussion check will now follow but thankfully, Kishan looks fine.

9.2: Avesh Khan to Ishan Kishan, Beauty! Around the wicket to the left-hander, bowling it on a hard length and on a very tight line around off stump. Kishan tries to stay leg side and guide it away but the ball just beats the outside edge.

Digvesh brings out that signature 'notebook' celebration and Abhishek has a war of words with him before the umpires intervene and separate the two. Sharma departs for a fiery 59 off just 20 balls.

Strategic Break. Phew, take a breather, shall we? Barring that one blip towards the beginning of the chase, Sunrisers Hyderabad have looked like a runaway train so far. Abhishek Sharma has treated us with some colossal hits and has already notched up an 18-ball fifty, looking unstoppable. Ishan Kishan has provided steady support from the other end, and this partnership is threatening LSG massively. Frustrations loom large for skipper Pant, as none of their bowlers so far have bowled with conviction, and to make their case worse, they have bowled a bit too many extras as well. It's all about getting Abhishek Sharma back into the dugout, or else, it will be an early finish here, as we have seen this man finishing games like a one-man army. To break the stand, Digvesh Singh is back on. Went for six in his first over.

6.5: Ravi Bishnoi to Abhishek Sharma, SIX! Make that a hat-trick of biggies for Abhishek Sharma and what a way to bring up the FIFTY as well. This is floated up, full and outside off, in the hitting arc. Sharma with a step-hit straight back over the bowler's head and gets it flat over the ropes. A fifty of just 18 balls!

... The Run Chase ...

Right then, 206 is certainly a gettable total on this wicket, but with no Travis Head and a batting lineup that hasn't consistently fired throughout the season, SRH's task won't be an easy one. LSG will target early wickets, as once you get set, you can simply go berserk on this deck. Stick around as the crucial run chase is up next.

SRH's debutant, Harsh Dubey, is down for a quick chat. He says that he thought he could have done better, but they have done a good job of restricting the opposition under 220. Shares that it's a part and parcel of the game, as sometimes those catches stick and sometimes it doesn't. He adds that he was focusing on his bowling and on his four overs. Mentions that it depends on the toss but he considers himself a batting all-rounder. Shares his plan about the wicket he took, as he says that he tried to bowl slower and got some turn as well. Adds that the bowl did stick on the wicket and he just wanted to bowl away from Marsh's arc. Concludes that his strength has been to turn the ball and he will try to bowl better in terms of lines and lengths in the upcoming games.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will be a tad disappointed in the end with the score they have managed to keep LSG to. Debutant Harsh Dubey was given the tough task of opening the bowling alongside the skipper but went for a few too many boundaries. The first half of the innings was underwhelming for the bowling side but Dubey came back in to break that opening stand. This allowed someone like Eshan Malinga to use his variations and he ended up bowling a brilliant spell. However, that final over cost SRH quite a lot and even though 3 wickets fell, Nitish Kumar Reddy went for 20 runs, swaying the momentum away from his side.

Lucknow Super Giants needed a big showing from their openers on a big occasion and that is exactly what was provided by Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram. Marsh was the aggressor, but soon enough, Markram was playing a blinder at the other end. Marsh got to a half century and got out as the opening stand was broken on 115 runs. Then came a bit of a quiet phase as Markram notched up his fifty but wasn't able to find the boundaries. Nicholas Pooran came back to form though, with a quickfire 45 off 26 balls before a couple of solid hits from the tailenders took them over the 200-run mark.

Lucknow Super Giants do breach the 200-run mark as 20 runs come off the entertaining final over and LSG will have the momentum going into the interval. Up until the last couple of overs, it seemed like Sunrisers Hyderabad had done enough to restrict LSG for a slightly below-par score but that wasn't the case in the end.

19.5: Nitish Kumar Reddy to Abdul Samad, OUT! BOWLED'EM! CHOPPED ON! Nitish bowls it fullish and keeps the line of attack around off, Samad shuffles across the stumps and attempts to sail it downtown. But, ends up getting a thick inside edge, and the ball first deflects on the pads and then rattles into the stumps. Samad departs, and he might feel that he didn't provide that finishing touch.

19.5: Nitish Kumar Reddy to Shardul Thakur, OUT! RUN OUT! Shardul Thakur departs now, in order to put Samad on strike. Another slower delivery from Nitish, outside the tramline on a fullish length. Shardul is way too early to heave the ball across the line and the ball goes rolling behind to the keeper. Ishan Kishan collects the ball as the batters decide to sneak in a run. Kishan, this time, misses to score the direct hit at the batter's end, and the ball rolls straight to the bowler, Nitish Kumar Reddy, who stands almost halfway on the pitch. With Shardul pushing harder for the run and get to the other end, Nitish Kumar Reddy seizes the opportunity as he runs towards the wickets at the bowler's end and underarms the throw, and Shardul continues to run, but towards the dugout.

He slaps the earth with frustration as there was a second easily.

Strategic Break. LSG were cruising consistently at above 10 runs per over, but those two quick wickets of Marsh and Pant, have slowed things down a bit. However, with enough wickets in hand and Markram looking rock-solid at one end, the Super Giants still can breach that 200-run mark. Also, Nicholas Pooran has got off to a steady start and would look forward to converting that into a quick blitz. For SRH, they have been good in patches and would look for a solid finish with the ball, with quick wickets. Here's Harshal Patel back into the attack.

Is that a catch? Harshal Patel gave the impression that he took the catch to begin with, but he quickly shook his head, signalling that it went into his hands on the bounce. The umpires have gone upstairs to have a look. It looks pretty close on the initial replay and the third umpire is checking it from a few different angles. Mighty close call but the third umpire concludes that as the ball went into the hands, a part of it was in contact with the ground as well. NOT OUT!

LSG's Nicholas Pooran is up for a quick chat with the broadcasters. He begins by saying that the break came at the right time for them, as he admits they lost the momentum in the middle stages of the tournament. Adds that it has given them the opportunity to reflect on their season, personally and from the team's point of view. Thinks that it is just about one game going your way and he hopes that this might be the one for them. Adds that they cannot control some things. On his personal performances, he accepts and says he has been disappointed in the last few games and says he has set some high standards for himself and expects to score runs in every game. Further reflects that they haven't been good in Lucknow over the last couple of games. Mentions about staying in the game for as long as possible and doing the simple things to the best of their abilities. Stresses that they need to bowl and bat in partnerships. Adds if the batters are set, they need to go as deep as possible and not leave it for anyone else. He is hopeful to tick those small boxes and give themselves the chance to win and move ahead in the competition. 

The captain of Lucknow Super Giants, Rishabh Pant, says that they don't mind anything to do as the wicket looks good whether you bat first or bowl first. Says that they are looking to take one match at a time and not put undue pressure on themselves and give their 100%. Mentions that the team has regrouped really well and they are in a good space as a team. Informs that Will O'Rourke is making his IPL debut.

The captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pat Cummins, says you never know how the wicket will play and hence, bowling first is a good option. On being asked about what these three games mean to them as a team, Cummins first admits that they haven't played to their potential and also informs about a few injuries in the camp as well, which have provided a chance for the new guys. States that they have some unfinished business. Adds that the team has been great and accepts that they haven't been at their best. On team combination, he informs that Travis Head is in the hotel room and Jaydev Unadkat is on personal leave. Concludes by saying that Atharva Taide and Harsh Dubey come in the side.
