That brings us to the end of this run-fest, where yet again a daunting total has been chased down with ease, as Sunrisers Hyderabad piled more misery on Mumbai Indians. The victorious skipper of Sunrisers Hyderabad - Cummins, on being asked whether he ever thought that 245 was a tough target, says that it is always a challenge at the start, but given the strength of their batting lineup and the quality of the pitch, he believed the target was definitely chaseable. On the opening duo of Abhishek and Head, he praises the openers for their fearless approach, noting that on a good surface with their range of shots, he says he is glad not to be bowling against them. Cummins is also highly impressed with the youngsters, highlighting that Salil Arora hasn’t had many opportunities this season but stood out during the pre-season. He credits the coaching staff for instilling a fearless attitude in the young players, adding that they may not even realise how good they are. On the concern as a skipper to concede a lot of runs he admits the challenge, saying the game has evolved significantly. Says targets that were once difficult, like 200, are now more achievable, with teams capable of chasing at 12 runs per over. He underlines the need for the bowling unit to reset expectations accordingly. On whether he has any sympathy for bowlers, Cummins says he has a lot, especially in these high-scoring games where there is often not much in it for them. He adds that even towards the end, executing a perfect delivery like a well-nailed yorker can still be the difference in a match. He also points out that really good bowlers continue to have a big impact, citing Eshan from their team as a key example. Cummins notes that Eshan has been a major reason behind their wins and currently holds the Purple Cap, stressing that bowlers can still play a huge role despite the challenges.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Heinrich Klaasen wins the award for his match-winning 65* off 30. He says counter-attacking was not really the plan when he got out there, but with a big gap at cow corner, he felt the need to take the risk early. The wicket was good, and against a quality bowling attack, it was about taking chances and trying to make it easier. Mentions that his left shoulder has been troubling him a bit, so he is not as strong over cow corner, and has been working on other options. The slinger has been helping with plenty of balls, and that is coming along nicely. Klaasen plays it down when asked if he is feeling invincible, saying it is a new day every time and he prefers to stay humble. He jokes about hoping the baby does not keep him up, and adds that it is enjoyable to watch Abhishek and Head put bowlers under pressure, as it makes things easier for the rest. He reveals that Arora had asked if he could go for the shots when 11 were needed off 12, and he encouraged him to finish the game. He praises him for delivering on the big stage, adding that they see that ability regularly in the nets and it is great to see his progress.

Time to hear from one half of Travishek - Abhishek Sharma gets the Orange Cap and says that with teams consistently posting big totals, the onus on openers has only increased. He stressed the importance of maximising the Powerplay, adding that he and Travis Head aim to provide strong starts and set the tone early. Speaking about their partnership, he highlights Head’s calm presence and says their approach is simple - watch the ball, play accordingly, and keep communication clear under pressure while backing their instincts. On chasing targets, he mentions that they do not focus on numbers during the innings, only becoming aware of milestones when they appear on the big screen, preferring to stay in the moment and react naturally. He also credits the bowling unit, acknowledging how tough it is to bowl in this format. He praises the likes of Malinga and Pat Cummins for sticking to their plans, and shares that their consistency, along with strong leadership from the captain, has played a key role in the team's success.

The captain of Mumbai Indians - On being asked about how difficult was it bowling with the dew, Hardik says he doesn't think the dew played much of a role. Admits that they (SRH) some good shots and they (MI) bowled some bad balls. Accepts that they did pull things back a bit, but it wasn't just enough in the end. On his bowling, Hardik says he enjoyed himself and had fun out in the field. He backs his bowlers to defend 244 on most days but acknowledges it was not MI's day, adding that he bowled well for the most part, barring the last three balls. On the dropped catches, Hardik says it has been that kind of a season and stresses that when chances come your way, you have to hold on to them or pay the price. He is quick to add that all the boys have tried hard. On whether they need to change their bowling attack, Hardik admits options are limited this season and does not want to single out any bowler. He says as an overall unit, MI have not been able to live up to what the franchise stands for, but expresses hope that they will figure things out, pointing to the passion of the owners and support staff. On the crowd support, Hardik says MI have not given their fans enough reason to back them, but calls them fantastic and loyal. He admits that they need to entertain the home crowd more to win back that love.

A night to forget for MI - It has been that kind of season for Mumbai Indians, and failing to defend 243 will hurt them badly. Their bowlers were taken apart in the Powerplay, with even Bumrah proving ineffective, and they simply had no answers to the onslaught. There were moments that could have turned things - Head edged one early but there was no appeal, and Naman Dhir put him down not once, not twice, but three times, costly errors against a player of his calibre. The only brief glimmer came when AM Ghazanfar struck twice in two balls, with Hardik Pandya adding another as they picked up three wickets in seven deliveries, but they just could not build on it. Boult grabbed one towards the end, but it was far too late, while Bumrah ended up giving away 54 runs in his four overs. The decision to bring in Shardul Thakur as the Impact Sub but not use him fully summed up a forgettable outing for MI.

Rickelton's record blitz - Earlier in the game, Mumbai Indians posted the highest-ever IPL total while batting first at the Wankhede Stadium, highlighted by a stunning 123* off 55 from Ryan Rickelton. He brought up a 44-ball hundred, breaking the record of Sanath Jayasuriya for the fastest century by an MI batter, and was well supported by brisk cameos from Will Jacks at the top and Hardik Pandya at the death. Eshan Malinga was once again the pick of the bowlers for Sunrisers Hyderabad with an excellent spell of 1/29, while Pat Cummins remained economical despite going wicketless. Hinge picked up a couple, with Sakib Hussain and Nitish Kumar Reddy chipping in with one each, and they did well to pull things back in the final four overs, giving their batters a fighting chance.

Smooth sailing for SRH - Chasing such a massive target, Sunrisers Hyderabad needed a strong Powerplay, and with Travishek at the top, that is almost a given. They did not disappoint, as Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head went berserk, with the Aussie leading the charge while also riding his luck and making it count. The duo put on 92 in the Powerplay and did not slow down, continuing to find boundaries at will to add 129 for the opening stand, before a sudden wobble saw them slip to 133/3, losing all three of their top-order batters in quick succession. However, their most in-form batter this season, Heinrich Klaasen, ensured there were no further hiccups. He batted effortlessly, picking his spots and bringing up a 22-ball fifty, getting good support from Nitish Kumar Reddy first and then Salil Arora, who applied the finishing touches with an eye-catching cameo of 30* off just 10 balls to seal the deal.

Run-chase madness continues - Another day in IPL 2026, another massive chase! No total seems safe anymore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad made a mockery of this pursuit, pulling off the fourth-highest chase in the history of the league and the highest ever at the Wankhede. It will be a tough pill to swallow for the Mumbai Indians, who slump to their fourth defeat at home this season, unfamiliar territory for them.

And according to Ian Bishop on air, this is the fourth-highest successful run chase in IPL history. Hardik slams the deck hard, on a length, on middle and leg. STRATEGIC BREAK! There was a glimmer of hope for the Mumbai Indians when they managed to run through the top three in a quick span. But since his arrival, Heinrich Klaasen, the man in form, has taken matters into his own hands and is walking this chase for the Sunrisers. One might argue that the dew has played a significant role, but to be very fair, barring Hardik and Ghazanfar, there hasn't been consistent bowling by the others, which also includes Bumrah. He was brought on to bowl a quiet over, but he couldn't. MI need a moment of brilliance and need to get Klaasen dismissed as quickly as possible. Bowls it wide outside off and it is the low full toss. Travis Head reaches out for it and cannot get under it properly. Scuffs it flatly towards the left of Will Jacks at extra cover. Jacks dives low to his left and plucks a fine catch under pressure. He goes with both hands and holds on to it nicely. Head falls after playing a highly entertaining knock. His best performance so far this season. The top three have gone in the span of just 7 balls. SRH, from 129/0, have slipped down to 133/3.

A mountain to climb - Well, if MI unleashed a 'Jacks Ryan' show in the first inning, get ready for 'Travishek' to take the centre stage in the run chase. No target is big enough when this deadly duo gets going well. They have chased down some mammoth totals before and will fancy their chances on a batting paradise like this. For Mumbai, the math is simple, get these two blokes out early in the restrictions and take the lead in the game. How much role will the dew play? It will be interesting to watch. Back in a bit with the chase.

MI's impactful opener is up for a chat - Will Jacks says he is happy to be back and credits the pitch for allowing both batters to play with freedom. He calls Rickelton's innings a fine one. Jacks points out that Ryan came in as a late replacement after Quinton de Kock fell ill, and feels that kind of last-minute call-up can sometimes work in a batter's favour. On the surface, Jacks describes Wankhede as a batting paradise in his experience and acknowledges that MI have their work cut out despite posting a big total. On the bowling plans, Jacks notes that the Sunrisers bowled slow bouncers effectively, making it hard to hit even during the Powerplay. He admits that high scores have been chased in this tournament and stresses that MI will need to bowl well to defend it.

Rickelton's century powers MI to a huge score - Eshan Malinga, amid all the onslaught, bowled with real control and impressed yet again, finishing with 1/30 in 4 overs. His spell brought some discipline to MI's middle overs. But Rickelton was in a different zone altogether. He reached his maiden IPL century with absolute fluency and stayed unbeaten on 123. And with Hardik promoting himself ahead of Tilak to maximum effect, the two kept squeezing out big overs from the other end to push MI towards 243/5.

Intent with positive ball striking - This is exactly what Mumbai Indians had been missing all season. Rickelton and Jacks arrived as a fresh opening pair and wasted no time announcing themselves, matching each other shot for shot and hitting with real ferocity to give MI a flying start. The bowlers found no grip, no movement, nothing to work with, and the two simply feasted on anything in the slot. Their effort produced a 78-run Powerplay, the second-best MI have managed this season. Nitish Reddy eventually prised them apart, breaking a 93-run opening stand, and the wicket of SKY shortly after saw MI slip from 93/0 to 110/2. But Rickelton refused to let the momentum die. He kept swinging, brought up a well-deserved half-century, and kept the hosts firmly afloat.

A Rickelton special Wankhede - The T20 landscape has shifted so dramatically that even 230-240 was being discussed as potentially insufficient on a surface this good. But Rickelton's last over assault has pushed MI beyond 240, which gets them back with some momentum at halfway. And according to the on-air commentator, Harsha Bhogle, Rickelton has now mounted the highest individual score by any MI batter in the history of IPL. So it was indeed a special knock from the MI opener just when his side is desperate for a win. Sunrisers bowled well in patches but never managed to string together a sustained quiet phase, and ultimately paid the price for it. They conceded 41 runs in the last 4 overs and might feel they have given away a few too many towards the end.
