Pat Cummins to likely join Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 17

Pat Cummins is expected to return to India by April 17 after a fitness test in Australia, which will determine whether he can rejoin Sunrisers Hyderabad for the ongoing IPL season. He has been recovering from a back injury since last July, and if cleared, he could be available for their next match on April 18, boosting their pace attack.

Pat Cummins leaves SRH camp for final scan on injured back

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins is likely to travel back to India by April 17 to rejoin the franchise for the ongoing Indian Premier League after undergoing a fitness test in Australia. Cummins, who also captains Australia, will undergo a fitness test on Wednesday, and if he clears it, there is a chance he could return to action for SRH.

The Australian has been dealing with a back injury since last July, which forced him to miss the T20 World Cup. His only appearance since then was a solitary Ashes Test in December. His prolonged absence has been a concern for both the national team and the franchise, given his key role in the pace attack and leadership duties.

As per a Cricbuzz report, Cummins is likely to clear a finest test and get the NOC from Cricket Australia. “Cummins, the captain of Australia, will undergo a fitness test on Wednesday back home, and if he clears it—there is an element of optimism in the franchise—there is a chance he could start playing for them. Cummins is expected to be back in Hyderabad on April 17. SRH play their next match on Friday (April 18) at home,” the report said.

CUMMINS TO JOIN SRH'S INDIAN PACE DUO

The pacer had initially joined the squad on March 27 ahead of their IPL opener against Royal Challeneger Bengaluru, but flew back home on April 4 after SRH’s game against Kolkata Knight Riders for final scans.

Before the start of the season, Cummins had said he was hoping to play the second half of the IPL if all went well. “I’m back bowling. I’m bowling basically every third day at the moment. We’ve mapped out a plan to get me right by the middle of the tournament. So hopefully, if nothing goes wrong, I’ll play the back half, plus the final,” Cummins was quoted as saying.

The news comes as an added boost for the franchise, which has unearthed two domestic players who strengthened their bowling attack. Yesterday, SRH’s Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain impressed the cricketing world by taking four wickets each in their 57-run victory against league leaders Rajasthan Royals.

Hinge, in particular, picked up three wickets in his first over, including the prized wicket of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for a golden duck. The 15-year-old Sooryavanshi has been the talk of the IPL, having taken on veteran fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Josh Hazlewood with ease.

Cummins’ return is expected to further bolster the franchise’s pace attack, which has otherwise struggled to defend its totals against batting-heavy sides.
