A light-hearted moment took over a Pakistan Super League (PSL) press conference when Jacob Oram burst into laughter after being asked about Rilee Rossouw’s recent comment that the Indian Premier League (IPL) feels “more like a movie than actual cricket.”

The incident came after Hyderabad Kingsmen beat Islamabad United by six wickets in Karachi, but the post-match discussion quickly shifted to the growing IPL vs PSL debate.

Rossouw had earlier compared the two leagues, pointing out key differences in structure and intensity.

“Both leagues have their pros and cons. IPL is a very long tournament, and PSL is a much more compact tournament where the competition is a lot more fierce. IPL obviously has the whole Bollywood behind it, so it's a lot more of a movie than actual cricket,” Rossouw had said.

When this remark was put to Oram, the Islamabad United assistant coach reacted with visible amusement.

“Did you say like a movie?” he said, laughing, before sharing his own view on the comparison.

“They're similar tournaments, but they're very different. That's twice as long, the IPL,” he added.

Oram, who played in the IPL during his career, said the league has grown significantly over the years.

“I haven't coached in the IPL. I played in the IPL and that was a long time ago and it has grown into a bit of a behemoth,” he said.

Speaking about his current role in the PSL, Oram said he has enjoyed his first coaching stint in Pakistan.

“This is my first opportunity in the PSL and I'm loving it. The Islamabad United group, from staff to players, have been so welcoming. We are well looked after, well catered for, so far, so good here.”

However, he also pointed out the lack of crowds this season.

“I'd love to have crowds here for that vibe and atmosphere,” he said.

The PSL 2026 season is being held in Lahore and Karachi without spectators due to a recent spike in oil prices. The tournament, which was originally planned across six cities, also had its opening ceremony cancelled.

The IPL comparison has come up multiple times during the season. Kusal Mendis also faced an awkward question in a separate press conference. He was asked if he regretted leaving PSL 2025 and later going unsold in the IPL auction after joining the Gujarat Titans as a replacement.

Mendis, who had left the PSL citing security concerns, joined Titans as a temporary replacement for Jos Buttler for INR 75 lakh and played in the Eliminator, which his team lost. He responded to the question with a laugh before the media manager stepped in.
