USA vs WI, T20 World Cup, Highlights: Shai Hope powers West Indies to 9-wicket win

Rovman Powell, the victorious skipper of West Indies says that it’s a special win for them and to get it at the Mecca of cricket in the Caribbean makes it even better. Adds that Roston Chase plays a critical role for them with the ball. Lauds Shai Hope who has been fantastic for them and adds to the strength of the team. Shares that South Africa should be a very good game. Ends by adding that it’s special to play cricket in Barbados as the fans always turn up to support them.

Aaron Jones, the captain of the USA says that it was a tough game for them. Adds that they thought 170-180 would have been a good score against West Indies. Mentions that losing wickets in the middle overs didn't help them and while defending, they tried to pick up early wickets but it didn't happen. Says that they will reflect on this and then come back stronger in the next match against England and reckons that will be a good game. Presentation Time...

Not much to say about the bowling effort of the USA as they have taken a pelting at the hands of the home team here. Harmeet Singh picked up the only wicket that fell, but they did not have any answer to the onslaught from Shai Hope who smashed it all around the park. Earlier in the game, the USA posted a below-par score. Andries Gous top-scored with 29 while a few batters chipped in with some cameos. Roston Chase and Andre Russell both picked up three wickets each while Alzarri Joseph got two and Gudakesh Motie chipped in with one as well.

West Indies knew that they not only needed to win but also to chase this down quickly to improve their NRR. Johnson Charles struggled once again but Shai Hope was absolutely superb in the Powerplay and made sure that they fully utilized the field restrictions. He registered one of the fastest fifties in this World Cup, but Charles holed out trying to up the ante. Nicholas Pooran joined in and continued to attack as they didn't really have any other option. Both of them went hammer and tons and finished the game off in a blink of an eye. Hope remained unbeaten on 82 off just 39 balls and fittingly hit the winning runs as they chased this total down with just over 9 overs left.

WEST INDIES KEEPS THEIR WORLD CUP HOPES ALIVE! They have done it in some style as well thrashing the USA here in Barbados. The fans have got their money's worth to see their home team perform in this manner. The Windies have also improved their NRR above South Africa which boosts their chances further given that they beat the Proteas in the next game.

For the West Indies, Andre Russell and Roston Chase were the standout bowlers with three wickets each while Alzarri Joseph with two and Motie with one were the other wicket-takers. The innings never got going for the USA after the powerplay. West Indies choked them and made the run-scoring difficult. The West Indian bowlers have done their job and the onus will now be on the batting unit to chase this as early as possible. Remember, a win will keep the West Indies alive in the competition. A professional bowling effort from the West Indies has restricted the USA to 128 in their 20 overs. Having sent into bat first, USA lost Steven Taylor early but Nitish Kumar and Andries Gous added 48 for the second wicket and steadied the innings. The dismissal of Nitish Kumar allowed West Indies to get back as they kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Milind Kumar and Shadley van Schalkwyk got starts but failed to carry on. Ali Khan threw his bat in the end and stuck a few lusty blows to take the USA past the 125-run mark.

We are just moments away from the start of the battle between the hosts but before that, the players from both sides make their way out to the middle and line up for their respective national anthems. It will be USA's first followed by the national anthem of West Indies.

PITCH REPORT - Samuel Badree is pitchside. He says the weather is a bit overcast and hopes the rain stays away. Adds that the square boundaries are 62 and 64 meters and the straight hit is 74 meters. Tells that there is also a strong wind blowing across the ground. Wasim Akram joins him and says that the pitch is as hard as a rock and will also turn a bit. Reckons that if the team batting first can score around 160-165 runs, they will have an advantage here.

Aaron Jones, the USA skipper, says that he expects to get a lot of support in Barbados. Adds that they want to play fearless and aggressive cricket. Mentions that they have played positive cricket and they hope to get a good score. Ends by sharing the teams’ changes with Shadley van Schalkwyk coming in for Jessy Singh and Milind Kumar replacing Shayan Jahangir.

Rovman Powell, the West Indies skipper, says that they will bowl first. Adds that the wicket looks good and they want to exploit it early on and then chase it down. Tells that they still have their destiny in their own hands, play two good games of cricket and they are in the semis.  Mentions that they have played well as a batting unit in the last few months and this game gives another opportunity to any of the batters to go on and score big. Informs they have made a couple of changes. Obed McCoy and Shai Hope come in for Romario Shepherd and Brandon King.
