WI vs IND 3rd T20I Highlights: Suryakumar heroics guide India to 7-wicket win

Right then, we have had three T20Is but there are still a couple of more matches to go. With that said, the caravan now moves to the west of the Atlantic Ocean to the United States of America for the final two matches. The 4th T20I will be played on Saturday, the 12th of August in Lauderhill, Florida and will begin at 8 pm IST (2.30 pm GMT). Hardik Pandya, the skipper of India, says that it was a very important win. Adds that they had spoken as a group about these three games being exciting. Mentions that two losses do not change much for them. Feels that it is important to show that they mean business when it comes to such games. Shares that since Nicholas Pooran had not come out to bat, it allowed him to use his spinners. Credits the spinners for their fantastic effort and adds that Mukesh Kumar and Arshdeeep Singh bowled well as well. States they need to take responsibility while playing with seven batters. Ends by saying that it is important to have someone like Suryakumar Yadav in the team who can take responsibility.

Rovman Powell, the captain of West Indies says that they were about 10-15 runs short and it turned out to be a good batting wicket. Adds that they did well with the bat but lost their way a bit in the middle overs. Mentions that looking back, Nicholas Pooran could have been sent up the order but they wanted to give Johnson Charles a chance and in the end, they were a few runs short. Adds that they bowled a lot of pace-on deliveries and it would have been better to take pace off but they have a few days in hand and will look to bounce back later.

Suryakumar Yadav is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his stellar knock of 83 runs from 44 balls. He says that it was really important to be himself. Adds that the team management wanted him to bat as much as possible. On his unorthodox strokes, he says that he has practiced these strokes a lot at home. Also says that he loves playing these strokes and is happy with how things went. On his chemistry with Tilak Varma, he says that both understand each other well. Adds that the way Tilak batted gave him confidence. Mentions that it was a great inning from Tilak. Shares that Hardik Pandya had spoken in the meeting about someone needing to put their hands up and he is happy to do that.

Earlier in the game, Rovman Powell won the toss and opted to bat and the openers got West Indies off to a fairly decent start. The innings fell apart a bit in the middle overs with Brandon King holding up one end and the dismissal of Nicholas Pooran put the brakes on the innings. It was then a fiery cameo by the skipper Rovman Powell in the back end of the innings that took them to 159 runs. For India, the spinners bowled for most of the innings with the pacers bowling the first two and death overs. Axar Patel completed his quota at the halfway mark and bowled well but Kuldeep Yadav picked up three wickets and allowed the visitors to control the middle phase. Coming to the chase, India came out with an aggressive intent and even though they lost a couple of early wickets, they had more than enough firepower to get the win.

West Indies will be a tad disappointed with that bowling effort but they were treated to some exquisite batting from Suryakumar Yadav. Obed McCoy picked up a wicket early but was torn apart in his two overs and it was a similar story with Romario Shepherd who too went for plenty. The spinners bowled decently well but simply didn't have the wickets in the middle overs. Alzarri Joseph was the only bowler who trouble the Indian batters and picked up a couple of wickets as well but it wasn't enough.

The series is well and truly alive as India make it 2-1 after having gone 2-0 behind! Under the immense pressure of losing the five-match series in the third game itself, India have pulled off a statement victory here. Chasing 160, the highest score of this series, India got off to a quick start but did lose Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first over itself. Suryakumar Yadav came in and played a few shots but Shubman Gill once again disappointed getting out in the Powerplay. After that, the visitors went on a rampage with Yadav showing no mercy to the Windies bowlers and Tilak Varma playing another fine supporting knock. Yadav got a quick fifty and got out on 83 but Varma kept on his impressive showing and along with skipper Hardik Pandya, took his side over the line, remaining unbeaten on 49.

We are back for India's reply. The two umpires make their way out to the middle followed by the two Indian openers. The West Indies players are in a huddle before they disperse. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill will open the innings for India. Obed McCoy will start with the new ball for the West Indies. Off we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, West Indies will be the happier of the two sides at the halfway mark. Moreover, they have the resources to defend this total. Considering the variable bounce off the surface, the chase isn't going to be easy for India and they will need to bat smartly to get over the line. Can the Indian batters rise to the occasion? We shall find out. Back in a bit for the chase... 

Brandon King is in for a chat. He says that in the first 6 overs, they talked about getting to 150 and they are happy with it. Adds that personally, he found it a bit difficult to get going due to uneven bounce and to play spin on this track is challenging. Says that they have shown in the last two games that they can bowl well and is confident of getting the job done.

On the other hand, India will be a bit disheartened with how things went in the penultimate over. At the start, Hardik Pandya opted to introduce Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel inside the Powerplay and this plan seemed to have backfired as both spinners were taken on by the West Indies openers. This move eventually paid off as Axar Patel got rid of Kyler Mayers. Returning to the side for this game, Kuldeep Yadav worked his magic and struck thrice in the middle overs to pile misery on the West Indies. With two relatively new batters at the crease, India would have fancied themselves to keep them quiet. However, it did not go as they would have liked towards the back end of the innings. Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for India with figures of 3 for 28 in his four overs. 

Mukesh Kumar nailed his yorkers in the final over but Rovman Powell's late flourish has helped West Indies post 159 on the board! After Rovman Powell won the toss and opted to bat, the opening pair of Brandon King and Kyle Mayers were circumspect in the first couple of overs but took on the Indian spinners who were introduced inside the Powerplay. With a solid 55-run opening stand, they laid a solid foundation for the West Indies innings. Nicholas Pooran continued where he left off in the previous game and looked set for another valuable knock but his stay was cut short by Kuldeep Yadav. With wickets falling at the other end, Bradon King's momentum was hampered and he followed Pooran back into the hut soon after. At that stage, the West Indies needed someone to put their hands and so did their skipper, Rovman Powell. His unbeaten cameo of 40 runs off just 19 balls has propelled his side to 159. 

19.6: Mukesh Kumar to Rovman Powell, Well bowled but they do get the brace. Mukesh Kumar nails the yorker on middle and leg, Rovman Powell stays deep again and jams it out in front of mid-wicket. The batters push hard and get back for two eventually. West Indies finish with 159/5 on the board!

West Indies needed Hetmyer to remain till the end but he has to make his way back now.

Hetmyer leans on and looks to work it leg side but gets beaten on the inside edge and rapped on the pads. There is a loud appeal but it is turned down and Chahal seems convinced. Hardik Pandya does review but UltraEdge shows a spike as the ball passes the bat and the onfield decision stays.

He misses and the ball strikes him on the back leg. The umpire is unmoved though. Hardik Pandya isn't convinced enough and does not go for the review.

Drinks break! West Indies will be pretty pleased with this start. Brandon King and Kyle Mayers did not shy away from taking on the Indian spinners and it worked out pretty well for them. With just a wicket down, the batters in the shed have the license to hit from ball one. On the other hand, India will be relieved to see the back of the dangerous-looking Kyle Mayers. In this next passage of play, they would want to keep things quiet and keep West Indies in check.

Hardik Pandya, the skipper of India, says that they don't mind chasing. Adds that they would have preferred to bat first. Reckons that the surface might get slower. Mentions that Nicholas Pooran has been batting well and says that they want to keep things simple against him. Informs that Yashasvi Jaiswal makes his T20 debut, replacing Ishan Kishan and Ravi Bishnoi makes way for Kuldeep Yadav.

Rovman Powell, the West Indies skipper says that they will bat first as the wicket looks a bit slow, and wants to put runs on the board. Informs that Jason Holder picked up a niggle in the knee in the last game and hence, he is rested and Roston Chase comes in for him. Mentions that the boys are excited and a series win will be good for not just the team but for the board and the fans as well. Says that against a strong side like India, you need to always press and not get too predictable.
