World Athletics Championships 2023 Javelin Highlights: Neeraj, Manu and Jena qualify for 12-man final

Neeraj Chopra topped the qualification with a sensational throw of 88.77m.

DP Manu qualified at the 6th spot with a best effort of 81,31m. 

Kishore Jena qualified at the 9th with a best effort of 80.55m. 

A good World Championships debut for Kishore Jena. He goes below 80m and deliberatley puts his foot beyond the foul line.

Kishore Jena has to wait now. He is currently 8th overall with a best effort of 80.55m. 

Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Jakub Vadlejch has hit the automatic qualifying mark of 83m. Only the 2nd athlete in the qualifications to do so after Neeraj Chopra. 

Jakub Vadlejch, the world leader, throws 83.50m in his second attempt. 

He is unlikely to take his third attempt. Time to head back and recover before the big final. 

What a recovery that was from Arshad Nadeem. The Commonwealth Games gold medalist from Arshad Nadeem lifts himself to 81.53m in his second attempt. This is likely to assure him a spot in Sunday's 12-man final.

He started with 70.63 and has improved to 81.53m. Keep in mind, this is Arshad's maiden international event in 2023 as he made it to Budapest after recovering from multiple injury setbacks. 

Arshad Nadeem, who has been plagued by injuries, has begun his campaign in Qualification Group B with a throw of 70.63m. 

Arshad, keep in mind, holds the South Asian record after having hurled the spear past 90m to win the Commonwealth Games 2022 gold medal. 

All three Indians have thrown in excess of 80m today. Kishore Jena, the lone Indian in Group B of men's javelin qualification, starts with 80.55m. 

World leader of 2023 Jakub Vadlejch, the silver medalist from Tokyo Olympics, is leading Group B with  81.34m in his first attempt. 

Neeraj Chopra is leading the field with 88.77m with a one-and-done attempt. 

DP Manu threw 81.31m to keep himself in contention. 

The Men's Javelin Throw qualification round's second group will begin shortly. Kishore Jena of India will compete alongside Jakub Vadlejch and Arshad Nadeem, among other formidable athletes.
 

Neeraj Chopra also qualified for the 2024 Olympics with a big throw of 88.77m in his first attempt, which also took him to the final of the javelin throw competition at the World Championships. The 2024 Paris Olympics qualifying mark is 85.50m. The qualifying window began on July 1.

Since Manu failed to breach the 83 m mark, we need to wait till second round qualification ends to see if his throw at the second attempt in the Group A qualification was good enough to seal a final berth. Currently, he is ranked third behind Julian Weber, whose best throw was 82.39m.

What a throw from Manu! The Indian has moved into the third spot with that throw, edging closer to qualification.

A sensational throw from Neeraj Chopra sees him qualify for the Javelin final at the World Athletics Championships with his very first throw. Hitting a personal season best of 88.77m, Neeraj is surely a gold medal contender this time.

India's DP Manu throws 78.1m in the first attempt and is currently ranked fourth in the men's javelin qualifiers.

Japan's Kenji Ogura launched a 76.65m javelin throw to start the men's javelin throw - Group A qualification.

Automatic qualification mark: 83.00 (Q) qualifying performance or at least 12 best performers (q).

The three Indians competing, as well as Arshad Nadeem, will be hoping for a strong showing at the Asian Games next month. The performances of DP Manu and Kishore Jena will also be closely monitored, as a final berth will boost their confidence after all of their hard work.
 

All eyes will be on Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, the gold medalist from the Commonwealth Games 2022. Arshad, the first South Asian javelinist to break the 90m barrier, has struggled with injuries and had knee surgery earlier this year. He'll be hoping to make strides in Budapest, and a strong field in men's javelin will provide a good platform for all athletes to test themselves ahead of upcoming major tournaments.
 

The men's javelin throw competition at Budapest23 features reigning world champion Anderson Peters, London 2012 Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago, and world No. 2 Julian Weber of Germany. Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, the reigning Commonwealth Games champion, is also scheduled to compete.

At the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, Neeraj Chopra came agonisingly close to becoming the first Indian world champion in any athletics discipline, but had to settle for a silver medal after finishing second to Grenada's Anderson Peters. However, it was India's first-ever silver medal at the World Athletics Championships and the country's second medal at the global event, following Anju Bobby George's bronze medal in the long jump in Paris in 2003.

Neeraj Chopra, 25, is a Diamond League champion in addition to winning gold medals at the Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games. However, the Indian javelin champion has never won the World Athletics Championships' top prize. Neeraj, the current world No. 1 men's javelin thrower in the World Athletics rankings, will travel to Budapest 23 hoping to win a gold medal for both himself and his country.
