Virat Kohli in Ranji Trophy Highlights: Delhi lead by 93 runs over Railways despite Kohli failure

Despite Virat Kohli’s brief Ranji return, scoring just 6 runs, Delhi ended the day strongly at 334/7, securing a 93-run lead over Railways (241).

Captain Ayush Badoni fell agonisingly short of a century with a 99-run knock, but Sumit Mathur’s unbeaten 78 ensured Delhi maintained their dominance.

The 63-run stand between Sumit Mathur and Pranav Rajvanshi has been broken by Ayan Chaudhari. The ball kept low to Rajvanshi and he was cleaned up for 39. Mathur continues to be the main at the moment as Delhi continue to extend their lead. 

Sumit Mathur brings up his half-century off 117 balls as he gets a thin edge which goes behind for a four. The southpaw has shown great application at the crease as he earlier got involved in a century partnership with captain Ayush Badoni. Following his dismissal, he held one end and carried the innings forward.

Delhi captain Ayush Badoni misses out on his fourth first-class century as he gets dismissed for 99 (77) against Karn Sharma. The 25-year-old walked to the crease with his team reeling at 97/4 and completely turned the tables with his aggressive knock but got dismissed on 99 while trying to go big against Karn Sharma.

Delhi captain Ayush Badoni and Sumit Mathur have rescued Delhi from the precarious position of 97/4 as they have added 100 runs for the fifth wicket. The duo didn't let the pressure mount on them and kept the run flow going to keep the scoreboard moving.

Captain Ayush Badoni is leading from the front after his team was left reeling at 97/4 as he slammed a quick-fire 34-ball fifty. Badoni took the attack on the opposition from the first ball itself and was able to find gaps in the field at regular intervals to rescue Delhi's innings. He's got good support from Sumit Mathur as the duo has been involved in a 71-run stand for the fifth wicket taking Delhi into lunch.

Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane also missed out on his 41st Test century as he got dismissed for 96 on Day 2 against Meghalaya at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC, Mumbai. On the other hand, Siddesh Lad brought up his tenth first class century.

Saurashtra and India batter Cheteshwar Pujara got dismissed for 99 against Assam during their Ranji Trophy 2024-25 clash. Pujara looked set for his 67th first class hundred but fell agonizingly short of the landmark getting dismissed for 99 by Mukhtar Hussain on Day 2 at Niranjan Shah Stadium, Rajkot.

The massive crowd which had gathered to watch Virat Kohli bat on his Ranji Trophy return after over 12 years has now begun leaving the stadium after star batter's dismissal on 6. As soon as Kohli got cleaned up by Himanshu Sangwan, fans were seen getting up from their seats and leaving the stadium in large numbers in disappointment.

Himanshu Sangwan is breathing fire for Delhi as he shatters set batter Sanat Sangwan's stumps in the very next over after dismissing Kohli. Sangwan looked set for a big score as he looked comfortable at the crease during his innings of 30 but was cleaned up by another beauty from the Railways seamer.

Virat Kohli gets out right after scoring his first boundary as he loses his stumps against Himanshu Sangwan. The star batter walked out of his crease to drive him down the ground for the second successive time but the ended up missing the ball which came back in sharply and crashed into his stumps.

His presence outside the venue sparked a strong reaction from other fans who came rushing in to click photographs with Kohli’s look-alike.

The fans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium are leaving no stone unturned to cheer for their local boy as they welcomed him with the chants of his nickname 'Cheeku' on Day 2. In a video going viral on social media, crowd can be seen shouting Cheeku as Kohli plays football to warm up for Day 2.

The fans have once again turned up in large numbers to see Virat Kohli in action at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. A huge crowd is waiting at the entry gates chanting the name of the India star at the top of their voices as they wait for his batting in Delhi's first innings.

Delhi captain Ayush Badoni has revealed that Virat Kohli will bat at his original position at No.4 on his Ranji Trophy return against Railways. Kohli is making a return to the Delhi team after a gap of over 12 years as he looks to get back into the groove after a poor run in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

"He will bat at No. 4. He has told us to be positive and express ourselves confidently," said Badoni, as quoted by PTI. "I have played against Virat bhaiyya in the IPL. It is an honour that in back-to-back matches I have now led Rishabh and Virat bhaiyya."

Virat Kohli is all set to bat for Delhi after a long gap of 12 years in the Ranji Trophy as he will walk out during Delhi’s first innings against Railways on Day 2 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. His last appearance for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy came way back in 2012 against Uttar Pradesh in Ghaziabad. The crowd is eagerly waiting to see Kohli bat as Delhi resumes their innings on 41/1 on Day 2.
