World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed that he will miss this year's Wimbledon Championships as he continues to recover from a lingering wrist injury. Alcaraz had already withdrawn from the French Open earlier this month, with the injury ruling him out of the clay-court major as well.

The Spanish star suffered an injury to his right wrist during the Barcelona Open in April. Since then, Alcaraz has also pulled out of the Madrid Open and the Italian Open in a bid to focus on recovery.

In a post on social media, Alcaraz said that the decision to skip Wimbledon was taken to avoid aggravating the injury further and to ensure he returns fully fit for the remainder of the season.

“My recovery is going well and I feel much better, but unfortunately I'm still not ready to be able to play, and that's why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen's and Wimbledon. They are two really special tournaments for me and I'll miss them a lot. We keep working to return as soon as possible!”

NO SINCARAZ AT WIMBLEDON

Alcaraz picked up the injury during the Barcelona Open, where he was forced to retire from his match against Otto Virtanen. Since then, the Spaniard has remained sidelined, missing the Madrid Open, Italian Open and now the opportunity to defend his title at the French Open.

Alcaraz’s withdrawal from Wimbledon also means fans will have to wait longer for another chapter of the much-anticipated Sincaraz rivalry. The two last met at a Grand Slam in the US Open final last year, where Alcaraz emerged victorious at Flushing Meadows.

Alcaraz’s rivalry with Sinner has become one of the biggest attractions in men’s tennis, making his absence from the next two Grand Slams a major setback for fans and broadcasters alike. The duo produced a memorable French Open final last year, with Alcaraz staging a comeback victory before Sinner responded by defeating him in the Wimbledon final.

Earlier this year, Alcaraz became the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam after beating Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final. However, he recently lost the World No. 1 ranking to Sinner following his defeat in the Monte Carlo Masters final. With Alcaraz set to miss Wimbledon, Sinner now has a golden opportunity to further strengthen his grip on the top spot in the ATP rankings.
