US Open 2025 Quarterfinal highlights: Spotless Sinner storms into semifinal, India's Yuki progresses

Jannik Sinner spoke about beating his friend, Lorenzo Musetti in the US Open quarterfinal. 

Q: What do you have to say about that performance against your countryman Lorenzo Musetti?

I try to really, well, you know… we’re from the same country, we have so many Italian players every time in the draw. I know there are many Italians here, so, you know, it’s nice to play here. Obviously, you know, playing Davis Cup together and then stuff like this, we have to put the friendship aside for the match. And then, obviously, when we shake hands, everything is fine. From my point of view, it was a great performance, very solid, especially starting very, very well in the match. It’s nearly midnight, so thank you so much for staying. It means a lot to us. It’s amazing.

Q: Do you think you’re playing your best tennis right now?

A: Yeah, I mean, every player who is in the semis of a Grand Slam is playing amazing tennis. So, yes, for sure. I mean, it’s a very special tournament, as always — it’s the last Grand Slam of the year. It’s the last big tournament we have throughout the season. So there is no better place to play a night match than here, in the biggest stadium we have, with an amazing crowd. So, it means a lot to me.

Q: What do you think a match like this says about the state of tennis in Italy, your home country?

A: Yeah, I mean, it’s amazing. For sure, at home, some Italians didn’t sleep tonight, you know, so we are very proud to be Italian. We are very… it’s… as I said, it’s a special country. We have amazing support. Italians are basically everywhere, so… it’s great to be Italian. And yeah, see you in the next round. Semis are special occasions, so let’s see what’s coming. And again, thank you so much. Have a great night.

Who can stop this guy? Another semifinal at the US Open and this one comes after a straight sets victory over compatriot Lorenzo Musetti in an all-Italian quartterfinal. Sinner looked in complete control from the word go. 

He is looking dangerous here. Much like an AI-generated player! 

He gets the job done 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in two hours. Tough luck for Musetti. He did his best, but it was not anywhere close to Sinner's level. 

Jannik Sinner, with a sensational forehand down-the-line winner, sends a message. The on-air commentators are in awe. Musetti is in disbelief. He did everything right, but had to be on the receiving end of that. 

Sinner will now serve to clinch this match in straight sets. 

Musetti flashes some brilliance with a stunning backhand crosscourt winner to earn two more break points at 15-40.

But once again, Sinner shuts the door — saving both, the second with a leaping backhand.

That’s twice this set Musetti has dragged him to deuce on serve, yet the champion keeps finding a way.

After being outplayed in the opening set, Musetti has raised his level in the second, pushing Sinner and even edging ahead at times. Sinner trails 2-3 in the second set.

Osaka could be seen bursting to tears after securing her spot in the semi-finals, following an intense tie-breaker against Karolina Muchova. 

Naomi Osaka will face Amanda Anisimova in tomorrow night's semi-finals in the US Open. The winner will advance to the final championship match scheduled for Saturday.

The battle intensifies as Naomi Osaka and Karolína Muchova trade games to reach 6-all in the second set, setting up a tense and decisive tiebreak.

The second set has started, and Iga is currently leading 2-0 against Anisimova. This looks like a game Iga would want to win if she has to take it to the third set.

Swiatek and Anisimova's last encounter was at Wimbledon 2025, and that's where the latter lost. But she is back in this quarter-final clash and is looking to make Iga pay. She has just won the set, 6-4, with a respectable serve and returns in each game, forcing Iga around the court. Anisimova looks so in control of the game, But... is it too early to say?

Felix Auger-Aliassime pulled off a thriller at the US Open, outlasting Alex de Minaur 4-6, 7-6 (9-7), 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) in a four-hour epic.

The Canadian storms into his second Slam semi, setting up a blockbuster against either of Jannik Sinner or Lorenzo Musetti next.

A comeback of the highest order might just be on the cards for Felix Auger-Aliassime in this thrilling US Open quarterfinal.

Leading 4-3 in the fourth-set tiebreaker, the Canadian has momentum on his side, but Alex de Minaur refuses to back down, making every point a battle in what has become a pulsating clash.

The 7-point tiebreaker is on for the fourth set. Felix has a slight lead, but anyone who holds serve is likely to win this one, and if Felix does it, he will be in the semis. But if de Minaur takes it, we head to the fifth set. 

What looked like Alex de Minaur’s set to win, with his early attacking intent paying off for most of the contest, has taken yet another twist — thanks to Felix Auger-Aliassime’s trademark fightback.

From trailing 5-2, the Canadian has clawed his way back, forcing a fourth-set tiebreak in a match that has already crossed the four-hour mark.

And judging by the intensity on court, the drama is far from over. 

Both players are fighting hard right now to make it to the next stage of the tournament. Alex de Minaur is still struggling with his serve, but the way he is going back and forth at the net shows that he is staying in the game. The score is 6-6, with Felix finding it within himself to climb back up from 6-5. It will only get interesting from here. 

The third set was a crucial one for both players. It was a serve and a volley by Felix Auger-Aliassime that put him in momentum when the game started. And after a set of 7 games, he won 4-6, 7-6(7), 7-5.

The Australian seals the hold with a clean backhand winner to stay firmly in the contest.

Elsewhere, Naomi Osaka continues her strong run as she faces 11th seed Karolina Muchova in another thrilling women’s quarter-final. And for Indian fans, there’s reason to tune in—Yuki Bhambri will feature in the men’s doubles alongside Michael Venus, taking on Rajeev Ram and Nikola Metkic in a tough test.

In the women’s draw, it’s a must-watch clash between second seed Iga Swiatek and eighth seed Amanda Anisimova. Their Wimbledon final ended in heartbreak for Anisimova, who was beaten 0-6, 0-6. This time in New York, she’s out for redemption. “I just hope we put on a great performance,” she said ahead of the match.

Wednesday’s action begins with Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime facing Alex de Minaur. The 25th seed has been on a dream run, knocking out Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev on his way here. This is his first Grand Slam quarter-final since 2022, and he’ll be keen to keep riding the wave against the Aussie eighth seed.

All eyes will be on Arthur Ashe Stadium tonight as World No. 1 Jannik Sinner takes on compatriot Lorenzo Musetti in the last men’s singles quarter-final. Sinner has a 2-0 record against Musetti and has been in frightening form—so much so that Alexander Bublik joked he was up against something “superhuman” in the last round. Can Musetti break the code?
