Instagram starts labelling AI creators as AI-generated content goes up
Instagram is testing a new "AI creator" label to identify AI-generated content. The feature aims to improve transparency without affecting content reach.

The feature is currently optional, meaning users must choose to enable the label, which then appears on their profile and alongside their posts. The company says the test is limited for now but is expected to expand to more users in the coming weeks.
In a post from its @creators account, Instagram highlighted its focus on transparency, stating, “We’re making it easier to understand how content is made, who’s behind it, and what’s worth your attention so that creativity stands out, and people can trust what they discover.”
Instagram has clarified that enabling the “AI creator” label will not affect how content is distributed or recommended on the platform. In other words, accounts will not be penalised or boosted based on whether they choose to adopt the tag.
How to add an AI creator mark
To add the AI creator label, users can head to their Instagram profile and tap on “Edit profile.” From there, they need to enable the AI creator option. Once turned on, the label will automatically appear in the profile bio and alongside their content, making it clear that the posts include AI-generated material.
The idea of distinguishing between AI-generated and human-created content is not limited to Instagram. In fact, several platforms have recently begun taking similar steps. For instance, Spotify introduced a “Verified by Spotify” badge aimed at improving transparency on its platform. According to the company, this badge indicates that an artist’s profile has been reviewed and meets its standards for authenticity and trust.
