Xiaomi has officially teased the Xiaomi 17 Max on its Chinese website, with a confirmed launch in China later this month. The device will mark the sixth addition to Xiaomi's 17 lineup, which currently comprises five smartphones — the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and the Leica Leitzphone.

Alongside the teaser, the company offered a glimpse of the phone's design and key upgrades. Lu Weibing, President of Xiaomi Group and head of its mobile phone division, described the Xiaomi 17 Max as a "fully upgraded" version of the standard Xiaomi 17, rather than simply a larger variant.

What we can expect from Xiaomi 17 Max

According to tipster Abhishek Yadav, the Xiaomi 17 Max could sport a large 6.9-inch 2K OLED LTPO flat display, with up to 3,800 nits of peak brightness. Eye comfort is also said to be a priority, with 3,840Hz PWM dimming expected to reduce eye strain during prolonged use. Rounding out the display package is Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0 protection.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 17 Max is expected to be driven by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 — Qualcomm's latest processor. It will reportedly be paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage, while the Adreno 840 GPU takes care of graphics duties.

Photography could be one of the Xiaomi 17 Max's biggest talking points. At the rear, the device is tipped to pack a triple camera system headlined by a 200-megapixel Samsung HP9 sensor with OIS. Supporting it is a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens for expansive shots, and a 50-megapixel 3x periscope telephoto lens for versatile zoom photography. On the front, a 32-megapixel shooter is expected to handle selfies and video calls.

Running the show likely is an 8,000mAh battery. Charging speeds are equally impressive, with 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging both reportedly on board.

Beyond the headline specs, the Xiaomi 17 Max is said to come loaded with several noteworthy features. The smartphone is likely to have a 3D ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner and dual stereo speakers. The device also reportedly features an IR blaster for remote control functionality, a metal frame for a premium build quality, and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.
