A simple broom from Arunachal Pradesh has unexpectedly become the reason behind a sweet tenant-landlord bond in Delhi, thanks to a viral video that’s winning hearts online.

In a light-hearted Instagram video, Shelly spoke about how small, everyday objects can sometimes bridge cultural gaps in the most surprising ways. Reflecting on her experience of moving away from home, she noted that not everything one brings back resonates in a new place, but in this case, a jhadu did.

In the clip, she explains how gifting the broom, something deeply rooted in her everyday life back home, ended up creating a warm connection with her landlord. “A jhadu is universal. Also, gifting someone something from your home without thinking about anything in return, I think it's one of the most underrated things someone can do for you,” she said. Adding a touch of humour, she concluded, “So if you're from the Northeast and you want a better relationship with your landlord, give them a Jhadu. Trust me on this one.”

The video quickly gained traction, with users flooding the comments section with their own stories and playful takes. One person wrote, “Lol I gifted my landlord 1kg bag of real Assam tea leaf he was impressed,” while another pointed out, “My landlord in Delhi spoke very highly of tenants from the NE states, he told they keep the house very clean. Maybe these jhadus are the secret.”

Others leaned into the humour, with one user joking, “United by Jhadu,” while another even suggested turning it into a larger idea, writing, “You should approach authorities to get GI tag for that Jhadu otherwise people will start to copy it.”
