A bout of heavy rain in Bengaluru came with an alarming sight for one man after an electric pole near his home suddenly burst into flames, sending sparks flying through the downpour.

Shared by X user Niket Raj Dwivedi, the now-viral video captured the dramatic moment from what appeared to be a residential area in Indiranagar.

Posting the clip online, he wrote, “Heavy rains in Indiranagar and of course electric wires go brrrr.”

In the clip, Dwivedi panned the camera toward an electric pole standing right across from his house as heavy rain lashed the area. Despite the downpour, bright orange flames could be seen slowly spreading across part of the pole while intense sparks crackled and shot out in bursts.

At moments, the sparks appeared to scatter dangerously close to nearby surroundings, lighting up the dark, rain-soaked street.

The unsettling combination of water, exposed electrical infrastructure and open flames left the situation looking especially hazardous, with the pole continuing to flicker and burn even as rain poured relentlessly around it.

The video caught attention online, with several social media users expressing concern over electrical safety during Bengaluru’s monsoon season.

Several users pointed out the risks posed by poorly maintained wiring and exposed electrical infrastructure.

Some users urged residents to regularly inspect nearby pole wiring, with one person sharing their own experience of replacing external wires through BESCOM after noticing insulation issues. Others emphasised how dangling live wires during rains could become a major public hazard, especially in residential areas.

A section of users also renewed calls for underground power lines, arguing that ageing overhead electrical systems become increasingly vulnerable during heavy rains and storms, creating avoidable safety risks for residents.

The viral clip came as Bengaluru continued to witness intense rainfall in several parts of the city, often exposing concerns around civic infrastructure, waterlogging and electrical safety during extreme weather.
