A video showing a group of Indian tourists dancing on Vietnam's famous Train Street has sparked criticism as several sections of the internet accused them of seeking attention and reinforcing negative stereotypes about Indian travellers abroad.

The now-viral video was shared by Shweta Jain, founder of a Mumbai-based jewellery brand, who was visiting Vietnam with her friends.

The video showed Shweta along with her friends dancing to the Bollywood song Chaiyya Chaiyya on Train Street, a popular tourist attraction in Hanoi known for its narrow railway track lined with cafes and homes.

"Vietnam ke Train Street gaye aur Chhaiyaa Chhaiyaa nahi kiya toh kya Train Street gaye (If you've visited Vietnam's Train Street but didn't do Chaiyya Chaiyya, did you really visit Train Street at all?)," read the text overlay on the video, referencing the song featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora which was famously filmed atop a moving train.

The post was captioned, "Filmy heart, global streets."

As the video went viral on social media, the group faced considerable backlash, with many users arguing that such behaviour harms India's image abroad and that tourists should enjoy destinations without turning every moment into a social media performance.

"No wonder even Vietnam doesn't want such tourists," one user commented, while another wrote, "Tell me you are an Indian without telling me you are Indian."

"They will dance everywhere in the world, defame India, and the actual hardworking guy has to face the consequences in that country," read another comment.

Several others echoed similar sentiments, with one user saying the video exemplified why some countries hold negative perceptions of Indian tourists.

Several others questioned the behaviour of tourists who turn public spaces into backdrops for social media content.

The criticism extended to X, where users accused the group of prioritising online attention over simply enjoying their travels.

"It's all about attention. The times we are in, everything seems to matter only when it's posted on some social media network," one user wrote, adding that while some people may enjoy such content, they found it "cringe."

The video surfaced just a day after another clip involving Indian tourists in Vietnam sparked massive outrage online. In that incident, the group of Indian tourists was seen performing an impromptu garba dance on an airport tarmac near a parked aircraft belonging to VietJet Air.
