What began as an ordinary overnight train journey from Chennai to Kannur turned into a wholesome experience for one passenger after a TTE tracked them down to return a pair of AirPods they had accidentally left behind on the train.

In a post on Reddit’s r/IndianRailways, the passenger said they were travelling in AC 3-tier when they had unknowingly left the AirPods on the lower berth after using them at night before going to sleep.

They woke up around 4 am, got down at Kannur half an hour later and reached home without realising that the AirPods had been left behind on the train.

A little later, the passenger received a call from an unknown number. It was from the Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) who had boarded the train at Kerala’s Palakkad Junction.

The ticket examiner asked the passenger whether they had travelled on the train and if they had misplaced their AirPods. It was only then that the passenger realised the device had been left behind on the berth.

The TTE then informed the passenger that the AirPods could be handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF), although that would require travelling to Mangaluru Central to collect them. Instead, he offered to return them personally while travelling back the same evening on that train.

The passenger later met him at Kannur around 7 pm and received the AirPods safely.

Explaining how he tracked down the owner, the TTE said that after passengers got off the train, the compartment became empty and he noticed the AirPods lying on the sheets. He then used the passenger’s PNR details to contact them.

“A big shoutout to Mr Santhosh, TTE from Palakkad Division, for this wonderful gesture. In a world where we often hear complaints about the Indian Railways, this was such a heartwarming reminder that honest and responsible people are quietly doing their jobs every day. Thank you, Mr Santhosh. Indian Railways needs more people like you,” the passenger said.

The Reddit post drew appreciation from several users online, many of whom praised the railway staff member for his honesty and effort in ensuring the lost item safely reached its owner.
