A passenger travelling on a train from Mumbai to Amritsar found himself in an unusual dispute after a fellow passenger, claiming to be a railway staff member, attempted to occupy his reserved seat.

The incident was shared by X user Sagar, who posted details of the confrontation on his account. According to the post, a railway staff member tried to sit on another passenger’s reserved seat inside the train.

Sagar claimed that when the actual seat owner refused to give up the seat, the railway employee said, “This is my train. I work for the Railways. How can you stop me from sitting here?”

The disagreement escalated after the staff member pulled the emergency chain and declared, “The train will not move until you allow me to sit.”

The post further claimed that personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) later arrived at the spot. However, instead of action being taken over the alleged chain pulling, Sagar claimed that the staff member introduced himself, the chain issue was resolved, and the train resumed its journey.

According to the post, the railway employee eventually sat on the same reserved seat. Sagar further alleged that the staff member later looked at the passenger and said, “Now say something,” while authorities present did not intervene.

The X post also added that, under railway rules, unnecessary emergency chain pulling could attract penalties and disciplinary action, prompting questions online about whether authority and position should be used in such situations.

The post included images showing the railway staff member involved in the incident.

Responding to the claims, Railway Seva commented under the post, writing: “Please share location, your journey details (mobile number and PNR/UTS number) and the date of the incident with us. You may also register your complaint directly at https://railmadad.indianrailways.gov.in for speedy redressal.”

Social media users reacted by indirectly calling for stricter action against unauthorised passengers and alleged misuse of authority inside trains. Some commenters suggested that stronger default action in such cases could help discourage similar incidents in the future.

Others expressed concern over the public nature of the complaint, indirectly suggesting that sharing photographs of the individual involved could potentially create complications if the matter escalated further.
