Rs 500 for a day in Bengaluru? Woman's budget challenge goes viral
Priyanka Mondal's budget experiment about managing Bengaluru's high living costs by taking a Rs 500 challenge has gone viral.

With rents rising and everyday expenses adding up, living in Bengaluru is rarely cheap. But one woman decided to challenge that reality by attempting to manage an entire day in the city on a strict budget of Rs 500.
Priyanka Mondal, originally from West Bengal and now living in Bengaluru, set out to see if it was possible to cover daily essentials, food, commute, and small breaks, within a tight budget. Starting her day on a modest note, she opted for a simple breakfast of idlis, which she found filling and economical.
For travel, she avoided expensive cab rides and chose the metro, highlighting how public transport can significantly reduce daily expenses in a city like Bengaluru. Through the day, she allowed herself small pauses, including a cup of tea, but remained conscious of every rupee spent.
The biggest challenge, however, came during lunch. Faced with steep menu prices, she admitted to being taken aback. Despite this, she managed to find an affordable option and kept her meal within Rs 120, sticking firmly to her plan.
As evening approached, Mondal continued her careful budgeting, opting for a light snack of vada pav and tea. With her funds nearly exhausted, she chose to head home, successfully completing the day without overshooting her budget. In fact, she managed to save Rs 200, turning the experiment into a small personal win.

Her experience resonated with many online, sparking discussions around affordability and urban living. While some praised her discipline, others pointed out that government-run canteens in several cities offer full meals for as little as Rs 30, suggesting that with the right choices, managing expenses could be even more accessible.
