This AI startup is paying people Rs 1.9 lakh to masturbate. Yes, for real
In a post on X, Joi AI said it was looking for 10 "masturbation consultants" to test and review a 'Daily Guided Masturbation' feature.

Joi AI, a US-based AI companion startup, has gone viral after announcing that it is hiring “masturbation consultants”.
In a post on X, the company said it was looking for 10 “masturbation consultants” to test and review a 'Daily Guided Masturbation' feature. The selected candidates would be paid $2,000 (approximately Rs 1.9 lakh) per month to provide feedback on the experience and document its effects on stress, sleep and mood.
“Yes, it's real. Yes, you get paid,” the company wrote.
The post has gone viral with around 8.6 million views, with users reacting in a mix of disbelief and humour. Comments included “I’ll do it for free,” “I’m an expert. What’s up?” and “The competition for these jobs is too stiff,” alongside jokes like “Parents are going to be so excited I finally got a job!”
Speaking to media outlet Decrypt, Joi AI Head of Brand and Communication Julie Levin confirmed the listing is real and said the company has seen strong interest since posting it. The month-long position is available to applicants over the age of 18 in the US and the UK.
Levin described ideal applicants as “articulate, observant, and impossible to blush,” adding that they should be able to describe sensations “better than a sommelier describes a wine.” The role also includes flexible scheduling and, as she noted, “the most interesting ‘What do you do for a living?’ answer at any party.”
“The role involves testing and giving feedback on the mood-matched AI voice-guided sessions, and providing feedback on the overall user experience,” Levin told Decrypt.
Levin said participants will test the guided sessions and fill out questionnaires for the company, sharing feedback on factors such as whether the AI voice matched the intended mood, how engaging the experience felt, and whether technical issues affected the session.
“Joi AI is focused on making AI companionship more immersive, personalized, and emotionally responsive. We’re innovating features like Daily Guided Masturbation to make AI a more intuitive part of people’s everyday wellness routines, not just a novelty experience,” Levin added.
Joi AI’s X profile describes it as a platform designed to “bring your fantasy characters to life,” enabling users to chat, role-play, and generate visual content.
