Budget 2018: Is the focus on rural economy prelude to 2019 polls?

Arun Jaitley's Union Budget 2018 showed that BJP had paid heed to the verdict of Gujarat elections. Farmers, youth and voters in rural areas had turned against BJP in 2017 Gujarat Assembly election.

"Our emphasis is on generating higher income for farmers," Jaitley said while presenting the Budget today.

From raising the minimum support price for Kharif crop to gas connections, health insurance to credit for the farm sector, Budget 2018 outlined measures to boost the rural economy.
